Biden putting his political life on the line for a man who hates him and wants him to lose the election is one of the most baffling and infuriating decisions I have ever seen
tell him and his genocidal military to go fuck themselves
I think my bewilderment over anyone not understanding this guy is just another racist asshole with a country at his disposal is nearly on par with my bewilderment at any purportedly intelligent adult believing Trump is sane.
I agree, but did you see the uproar over Biden’s relatively minuscule withholding of military aid a few months ago? He would get another Afghanistan Withdrawal-sized pile-on if he meaningfully restricted aid to Israel at this point, and his campaign absolutely would not survive it.
A) it's the Biden Administration, not just the man himself (though, of course, the buck stops with him).
B) there is no way Uncle Joe (or his team) will allow this (or any) Israeli PM to usher in Trump 2. He has already hung Bibi out to dry with the lastest peace proposal...watch for more of this.
If he loses to Trump because of this and Trump successfully implements project 2025, it could spell the end of democracy in the US and domino through the world. This could really go down as one of the biggest political blunders all of time.
Biden - hopefully the last of the believers in the Blue Dog mantra of trying to be Republican-lite.
Granted, on some items, Biden has been moved us a little left (unions, infrastructrue), but man some things he is drinking the Blue Dog koolaid
Biden is a stubborn old Zionist who is unwilling (and maybe unable) to change, which makes his choices less baffling… still definitely infuriating, though
*Only* explanation I can conceive is that he considers the state and its PM-for-life as so Platonically separable that foursquare supporting the first need not be ethically darkened by the fact of the second.
Practically, as statecraft, that's dumb. But I find it very slightly benightedly noble.
The framing that it’s all just in the hands of Netanyahu is comical. Biden is committed to the entire Zionist project, it doesn’t matter who’ll be in charge over there.
The only explanation is he views American support of Israel and Zionism as so sacrosanct that it is bigger than him, BiBi, or Trump. and falling on his sword for that cause is actually honorable and worth it
Two thoughts on this.
First and foremost, it's not at all clear to me that Biden is actually hurting himself politically by supporting Israel. It's important to remember that the electorate in general is far more anti-Israel than people on BlueSky or Twitter.
It would be infuriating even if there was some political calculus behind it. I think, alas, that in the case of both Biden and Blinken, it's just moronity/duncehood/foolishness/idiocy
I hate Israel for many, many reasons but one of the lesser ones is that Netanyahu, and the Israeli government are consistently dicks to the POTUS (Obama, Biden, etc.) and entitled POS while we are funding their healthcare but American people go without. Cut them fucking loose already.
I think this or something like it is functionally correct - I see a lot of speculation about this being about money or blackmail or whatever and none of that makes any real sense to me
Biden and his foreign policy team really believe in Israel, to the detriment of their political and moral standing
Biden sees Netenyahu as transitory, while the Israel project is long-term/bigger picture. Basically, Biden is willing to sacrifice his career for Israel, not Bibi--but Bibi does a really good job conflating himself and his interests with Israel and its interests in American media.
Not baffling at all really! Zionist donors are eager to give tens of millions to keep their advocates in power and their detractors primaried out. It's a wonder how they can afford to keep doing this cycle after cycle but here we are.
We've known since the days of Von Papen and Chamberlain that you can't negotiate with fascists.
No matter how much you give, if you don't eventually capitulate to them completely, they'll set out to destroy you.
How liberals haven't learned that lesson is beyond me.
