What really irritates me about this is that I, personally, have been in this exact situation. When I got the call telling me that my campaign was doing more harm than good and that it was time to end it, I ended it. I didn't subject everyone to several weeks of chaotic, semi-public bickering.

If the war chest goes to the DNC, they'll only be able to use it for independent expenditures, which is problematic for campaign strategy reasons. (I think they'd also have higher advertising rates.) So if the Dems want to retain full use of the war chest, the nominee has to be Biden or Harris.

a) There's no way Biden is being removed against his will. b) This is just pageantry because of d). c) If Biden exits the race soon, it's the same process as for Biden. If he waits too long, exiting will no longer be an option. d) Either Kamala keeps it, or it goes to the DNC.

Did you know you can get covid in your eyeballs? I recently got pinkeye from my son, and one of the first things I learned when googling it is that you can get covid in your eyeballs. (Unsurprisingly, it turns out I just have regular pinkeye, not eyeball covid.)

Joe Biden is not the Democratic nominee. There is no Democratic nominee, because the Democrats haven’t nominated anyone yet. That’s the whole reason why this discussion is happening now. If Biden is going to drop out, he needs to do it soon.

To Gavin's credit, I don't think he would accept this. He definitely wants to be president someday, but he's very cautious about moving too quickly. He's more likely to serve out the rest of his term as governor and then angle himself for a cabinet position so he can establish himself federally.

In the past, the party's response was basically "It's too early to look at polls. Voters will come around to Biden once they start paying attention and see him in action". After the debate, that argument is a lot more difficult to take seriously.

I think the big issue isn't the movement in the polls, but the fact that people are taking the polls seriously. If Biden goes from losing by two points to losing by four points, the central issue is that he was already losing by two points.
