My students sometimes ask about things like this and what we are "supposed" to do, and I just tell them that we are obviously dietary generalists. We eat something. If it doesn't kill us and we want to eat it again, it is officially food.

I am telling you this story because Louisiana's decision to require the Ten Commandments inside every classroom is more than just an abstract freedom of religion issue There are very concrete effects on children when religion enters the classroom. And they can last a lifetime

Several of our instructors already use OER so it shouldn't be too bad for most of our courses. As the program coordinator I'm sure I'll feel most of the bumps that do come along though.

From a CC perspective, we also have a lot of pressure to reduce textbook costs. The College has pushed Inclusive Access and most recently Equitable Access. My program is transitioning to OER only adoptions in the Fall.

Even the simplest things are not immune. I spent a good chunk of last summer building a twine game for my intro module. Students were just supposed to play the game and write up a short paragraph on what they learned/ how the game reinforced lecture concepts. Still got some obvious LLM junk. 😔

Agreed! I am making peace with grading crappy LLM submissions (mostly Fs w/ some Ds). I hate it but I'm navigating around it so far. But upper admin does nothing but push crappy AI at us. And ignores all the harms of this tech. Which is truly disheartening.
