Remember the outcry from our entire political class back in October when it was reported that Israel had hit 1 hospital? They immediately screamed fake news. Now it’s 8 hospitals, and they’ve all gone silent.

Greg Abbott and Dan Patrick are DELAYING federal aid to Texas for Hurricane Beryl — because Abbott left the country just as the storm hit Joe Biden personally called the Houston Chronicle newspaper to try to track down Abbott. THAT is how dysfunctional Texas Republicans are.

It cannot be stressed enough that adjusting the size of the Supreme Court in the 19th c. was a serious solution to serious concerns about how the Court functioned. As @earlymodjustice.bsky.social points out, reform often addressed imbalances. And these imbalances were often about REPRESENTATION. 1/

Asked an historian of England, who agreed. SCOTUS rejected an historical tradition that goes back to 1689, and gave the president protections which George III did *not* have, which Washington did not want, and which anyone & everyone who had any role in writing the constitution opposed.

The antithesis of Biden governing, the reason we are in the mess we are in now. After the Senate silence, Obama should have invoked the "silence gives consent" legal maxim and sent Marshals to accompany Garland to take his seat on SCOTUS. So he's part of this too. Always a knife to a gunfight.

On the same morning, the Court said: 1) We should not presume to know more than small town mayors regarding complex, technical questions like whether to arrest people for being poor. 2) I don't see why a "PhD" in "nuclear physics" should have any latitude to implement ambiguous energy rules.

The thing about taking statutory interpretation away from the agencies is that Congress actually has power over those agencies, but does not have power over the Court. It’s power grab in the guise of helping; it’s “helping” in a paternalistic, condescending, unchecked manner.

Criminalizing homelessness without criminalizing poverty wages, and the commodification and price gouging of basic necessities like healthcare, housing and food that lead to homelessness is an absolute moral failure now owned by the right-wing justices on the Supreme Court.
