and the people back home are swamped in stolen historic artifacts they have to build museums for, all while pretending to believe all the exaggerated stories of how they were found
It's even funnier to think that every predator ship will need at least one nerd on it to keep it going, somewhere behind the scenes of every predator movie there is one nerd yautja nearby
That's always been my favorite headcanon. These are just the rich assholes looking for glory and dealing with a middle age crisis. Some bureaucracy back in their planet has to tell the families how they died.
Rich big game hunters are always bragging about how they took down that animal using a big ass long gun. For rich predators, that would explain why they carry so many long weapons: huge fore arm knife, huge spear, long barrel shoulder laser.
Predators have principles and competence though. Safari killers would need a guide that knows what they're doing to point to the pregnant target to shoot.

What if their culture revolves around hunting but the movie Predators are the assholes who take it too far?
Like, "Jeez, Gary, yes we hunt, but for stuff like the best value dish soap or the perfect sunset. Nobody said anything about ripping the spines out of pre-FTL mammals."
I was today years old when I realized that isn't actually the plot in the movie. Is that not canon? Did I just map their alien culture onto our terrible human one innately?
In the first AvP comic (good story, not the crappy movie stories) they were a bunch of "teens" whose hunt was a coming of age ritual.
Maybe they need to prove their manhood so they can take over the family real estate business.
This was implied in the very first Aliens vs Predator comic strip. It depicts a hunting trip while narrated by two office guys talking about going back to nature.
I feel like this is very clearly implied by the first movie, and not altogether thrown out by the second.
But by now there’s too many movies of different versions of these assholes doing the same shit. Everything gets done to death.
You’re not entirely wrong, going off the expanded lore. Predators are a matriarchy and it’s only the males who go hunting as it’s the only way for them to earn status. So it’s just bragging rights. It’s not even their whole culture, we just don’t see the other parts mostly.
