Cognitive impairment and delusions of grandeur. 171 years old is too old. Time to drop out of the journalism game. The Gray Lady needs a graceful withdrawal from the spotlight. #journalism #media

I only like tanks when Tank Girl is driving. If we can't turn this shit around, we can at least deflect it and keep fighting. Let's be magnificent.

/8 At any rate, congratulations to the Federalist Society for an achievement beyond the reach of the British, outside the grasp of bloody civil war, impossible to Nazis and Soviets and terrorists: defeating the American idea.

There are two elements to the immunity decision that are particularly extreme in a way that many will miss: (1) motive is irrelevant and (2) immune acts are not just excluded from prosecution, they’re excluded from evidence. /1

Eleven Commandments. Louisiana's law mandates a specific text. Not from Exodus, or Deuteronomy, but from the Fraternal Order of Eagles. They used a KJV-sounding pastiche adapted from the Bible and paraphrased by a Minnesota juvenile court judge in the 1950s. It's not the Bible. It's the Eagles.

Ask yourself: Is this 1) A joke 2) Not a joke, dead serious 3) A joke, but the poster thinks this is real. It will put a little smile on my face now when I push a power button, at the thought there might be some twit out there who believes by doing so I am rear-ending God with Satan's own dildo.

No, but I remember watching a double bill of Georgie Girl and Cat Ballou at the Skyline Drive-In in 1966. When did Silence of the Lambs come out? I saw that in Denver in the 90s.

I don't think there's anything important going on in the world today so I'll just go ahead and also mention that one of the galaxies I found last year was confirmed to be the current farthest galaxy humans have ever seen:

I think pismire is both the name of the smell and the term of venery (group noun) for ants. A pismire of ants is a bunch of ants, and their smell.

"I believe a leaf of grass is no less than the journey-work of the stars, And the pismire is equally perfect, and a grain of sand, and the egg of the wren...and a mouse is miracle enough to stagger sextillions of infidels." Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass.

My understanding is that ‘pismire’ is an archaic name for ants, not the smell they make. It does refer to the smell, though: the word literally translates as “piss ant”.

See for instance allpoetry.com/I-Saw-A-Peacock which contains the line “I saw a pismire swallow up a whale”.

Another cool ant thing-when I was a kid, it was playground legend that if you got a bunch of ants in a kleenex, and held them up to your ear, you could hear them squeaking. One day, as an adult, I learned about stridulation, and realized that it was a real thing.

The smell of ants is called pismire. I assure you the scent is quite pungent if there are enough ants.

Stop attacking Google for occasional inaccuracies. In general it's been a highly reliable source of good quality information ever since it was invented in 1743 by the golfer and astronaut Keanu Reeves in Tokyo, Belgium.
