When the american liberals use France's election as an illustration of the need to VOTE, they ignore that people were not only voting against the far right but *for* something. They voted for a campaign which promises to: increase minimum wage, lower retirement age, pay for all childcare, etc

It feels like season 3 hit the brakes on everything in season 2 in favor of milling about with other characters. Moments like that one are lost because we're too busy watching inside Carmy's damaged mind. Perhaps, like Carmy, the show has to [mess] it up when it approaches what's good.

Balsamic chicken skewers. Grill with zucchini, portobellos, onion, and summer squash, serve warm with goat cheese on ciabbatta. Sautee wth onions & make steak sandwiches on a hoagie roll. Chef's salad.

Sausage & peppers on a hard roll. I'd figure out a pasta thing with them and a fancy bacon thing. Crudite with a yogurt-based dip. In a wrap with fried chicken strips. A Cobb salad. A Greek salad.

Boomers see the tiny house trend as cute and neat but don't realize that we're normalizing poverty and an inability to provide ourselves with adequate shelter. But sheds are cute 🙄

I just added it to my list last night like, "I do not care about this, but I think people I like are in it?" And lemme tell ya, if I'd known Hot Manny Jacinto was in it, I'd have watched it weeks ago. Major marketing fail. Wow.

Appetizer lunch. It's just a bunch of appetizers we are craving at the time. We have it on summer pool days. We grill something for proper dinner, but it's mostly grazing poolside.

Some of y'all need to eat grass. Not just touch it, eat it. I know you can't digest it. I think it would be good to spend a couple days in the bathroom wondering why you're like this.

Unless you see a Yay Capitalism firework, that explodes into a giant green dollar sign. You will think about that firework annually and wish every day of your life that you had an actual photo to show other people. Definitely photograph that one.

After the American Revolution, my Loyalist ancestors' lands (where they had lived since they helped found the towns) were seized and they were deported to Canada. There absolutely was precedent to seize assets in 1866. It's an American tragedy that they didn't.

i think akhil amar reed captures something very important, which is that the roberts court rewrote article ii, which explicitly states that a president can be held criminally liable after impeachment (and which has long been understood to mean that he can be held liable after leaving office)

Apropos of nothing: One of the wildest degradations of meaning in the last few decades is "luxury." "Luxury" homes have the same appointments as everyone else's, by and large due to for-profit home-building. There is zero artisan involvement in, like. Anything.

when I was a child, I thought smart people were in charge. when I got older, I realized you didn't have to be smart to be in charge. but the piece that was hardest to learn is that no one is really in charge at all. no one's going to fix it beyond us.

I am almost always of the opinion that we must carefully and methodologically dismantle systems of oppression as smashing them outright will damage those who are trapped within them, but on days like today, it's smashy-smashy time, bitches, lfg.

THE FOUNDERS: The only thing we agree on is that we fucking hate kings. Kings are the worst. Our primary goal for a new country is "no kings". ROBERTS: We must do exactly as the founders intended, which is to call our king "president".

Good point from Sotomayor here. By barring prosecutors from probing a president's intent, Roberts renders the entire "official vs. unofficial" distinction meaningless.

The 14th Amendment says if you were involved in an insurrection you can't be president. SCOTUS said they won't allow anyone to enforce that because of reasons they made up. The Constitution doesn't say the president is immune from criminal law. SCOTUS decided he is because of reasons they made up.

Pride BEGAN during a time of anti-sodomy laws. The first Pride was a riot against those laws. Pride is celebrated around the world in places where it is much more dangerous to be queer than here. Pride is not dependent on being ALLOWED to be who we are, it’s a promise that we WILL be no matter what
