The Government of Denmark had just agreed to a tax on livestock emissions. €40 in 2030, rising to €100 in 2035. Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen says: "We will be the first country in the world with a CO2 tax on agriculture.” Looks like New Zealand is now distinctly behind in that race.

A bit of work to do on methane then, to align with their ambitions expressed in the Global Methane Pledge (www.globalmethanepledge.org)

"methane policies in both countries were largely driven by safety, resource utilization, and pollution concerns rather than reducing greenhouse gas emissions"

The New Zealand govt says it will hold an independent review of 'what New Zealand's 2050 methane target should be, consistent with the principle of no additional warming'. It's not clear where that 'principle' comes from, but Kristen Green (not on BSky?) has done some insightful analysis.

IMHO one of the hardest concepts for people worried about climate change to grasp is that fear-based messages alone are not enough to catalyze change at scale. Fear wakes us up (EPPM, Witte 1992); but if we don't think we can do anything about it (self-efficacy, Bandera 1977), we will do nothing.
