Yeah, I think an angle here could possibly be: National turns its back on its southern heartland; says they're not sure the South Island exists and don't really care either way.

Your piece got me thinking about equivalents... eg if Destiny was threatening Rotary meetings or Remuera bridge club meetings or a drink at the golf course, to the point safety couldn't be guaranteed and they were cancelled, what would be the blowback?

We did it fam! Thanks to your support we pushed Minister Goldsmith to commit to introducing an anti-stalking bill before the end of the year. We will ensure it is a bill that works well for victim-survivors. Our focus is preventing violence against women, and we are very grateful for your support 🙂.

It's not OK for venues to keep letting Destiny call the shots. Police need to step up if the bigots are making people unsafe.

Thanks @alicetawhai.bsky.social - yes we need a new anti-stalking law, and for the police to be trained about stalking so they recognise it, and know how to protect victims.

At some point people are going to realize that well-spoken likeable (to other white men) white men are not necessarily intelligent or capable; they just remind the person in power (who is invariably a white man) of themselves.

A reminder, as our government prepares to "reform" health and safety, that our current health and safety laws were written in the blood of 29 Pike River miners, not to mention workers in forestry, agriculture, manufacturing, construction and literally every industry you can think of

I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. ☺️🏳️‍🌈💖

Bob McCoskrie (the bigoted dick from Family First) has made a website to rate which businesses in Aotearoa are 'woke' and which aren't.

Very handy if you're evaluating where to work or where to shop and want to know who's inclusive and cares about the environment!

Going to try NOT rolling my eyes all day at Danyl doing his usual thing, so I'll just say: if you insist "growing numbers of people are concerned about trans rights" and DON'T mention the extreme amounts of money & coordination that have created this panic, you are either complicit, or a total mark

meanwhile... in April, Mental Health Fdn "looks to cut roles due to govt funding failing to meet rising costs." & I'd missed this: "Mike King was in favour of getting rid of the [Min of Health's] suicide prevention office, telling TVNZ it “is exactly the sort of bureaucracy we need to get rid of”."
