It is both funny and instructive how eager so many powerful individuals and institutions with massively grandiose understandings of their own significance have been to discard every value they've ever professed or pretended to in order to protect the dumbest, shittiest rich guy of his generation.
I still can’t believe the Trump thing happened. I’ll probably never actually believe all this is real. It’s been almost a decade
My brain has been broken since the day he came down the escalator and into our lives with that stupid grin on his face

you can have a carefully constructed system of protections and safeguards, or you can hand over the whole country to the literal shit demon from 'Dogma', well, everyone has to make that decision for themselves
For my money, it's his ongoing resemblance to someone a fair fraction of his supporters would correctly label as the Prince of Lies that is most funny and most instructive.
It’s really kind of astonishing. He is so nothing. I really don’t get all the people helping him. Makes you believe in conspiracy theories because, really, WTAF?
It feels, at times, like my subconscious keeps wrestling with a macabre hypothetical that just frames/reframes itself as, “HIM???!!!??? I mean if he were charismatic or charming or calculating or even [GASP!] successful at things I could maybe wrap my brain around this…
…BUT HIM??????!!!!!??????”
I don't disagree that it's instructive, but it's not shocking. The system has literally always protected the shittiest rich people among us, it's just that Trump happens to be louder about how shitty he is than most. Much louder. It's what the system was designed specifically to do.
