Certainly agree we need something to dislodge him. I just think we're far more likely to find it by voting against him than by letting him win and plunge the country into an era of terror and the dismantling of the government. Wrecking the economy has not historically dislodged tyrant.

Just saw someone post that they want Biden to lose by a landslide in order to force the Democratic Party to change What year is it? Because I've seen this same argument against Clinton in 2016 and Gore in 2000 A huge loss WOULD change the party, but probably not in good ways

I used to find it crass when studies estimated that the cost of Long COVID (in the US) is around $3.7 trillion, it seemed wrong to put a dollar amount on human suffering, but now when I read such studies I’m just relieved to see someone acknowledge that the pandemic isn’t over.

Best film adaptation by far. The Oregon Shakespeare Festival production this year has similar vibes in a lot of ways using minimalist sets and yet so much of a haunting vibe.

The mayor usually gives a speech., Sometimes other representatives. The library brings free books & has a free to use button maker to use. The local history museum was collecting first-hand stories about queer town history. Health & Human Services is there to talk about community health concerns.

It's also an incredibly welcoming to the entire community. No one's weird about ace people or nonbinary people or "het passing" relationships. Little kids and what's and boring queers and kinksters are all happily together honoring each other's being. Incredibly healing vs. online discourse.

Also, the leadership is incredibly explicit that Pride is a protest not just a party and we're celebrating throwing bricks to demand our rights and working together to protect each other when we can't rely on other people to do so. We're having fun to recharge to fight.

Every queer person I know that's gone to other Pride festivals and then Eugene Pride are bowled over by how much better Eugene is and how many long-standing general pride festival problems they're trying to actively address. Feels like local queer people don't have that perspective at all.

There's a march but it's short. The main attraction is the festival where they make sure that local artists and community organizations have priority (including financial assistance with fees if needed). It's a gathering of the actual community so we can connect together while having fun.

"An all-ages event tries to sanitize the community!" Maybe, but Eugene family friendly is incredibly scandalous in most places. We have no topless laws. We have an all ages naked bike ride in town. As long as your junk is covered no one cares too much. Kids love the puppy play guys.

"Eugene Pride is friendly to cops and let them be security." They did do this previously under both pressure from the city and fear of the hate groups that constantly protest outside the gate. They've changed to private security and asked the cops to not be present.

They put up a lot of shade structures so that people can get out of the sun. If they figure out more ways to be accessible they try to do them. There's a lot of competing needs and limited funds, though.

There's a misting tent and cold neck wraps available to prevent overheating. They put as many booths as they can along the paved walkways so at least parts of it are wheelchair accessible. The booths were spread out after COVID hit to reduce crown density. No one's weird about masking.

"Eugene Pride is inaccessible and doesn't care about disabled people!" While they could be doing better, they are actively making the effort every year to make things more accessible, but there's limits like being held at a city park. They have sign language interpreters. There's free water fills.

"Eugene Pride is so corporate!" The biggest sponsor is a community credit union. Then some radio stations and other mostly local businesses. Walmart is there but they're pretty chill. It's all literally just there to have enough money to cover costs because this shit can't happen for free!

Eugene Pride (Oregon) could definitely be doing a lot of things better, but it's so funny to hear local queer people rag on it like it's a disservice to the community when I regularly hear queer people lament their own prides & wish for specific changes that Eugene is already doing.

It wasn't planned that way, but it really was probably the best possible scenario for the story overall. I know I probably could not play my pre-illness characters again. They'd be different people because I'm a different person. I think a hard permanent demarcation is good.

Somehow things lined up such that getting near the end of Sam's last episode for a while, he had a chance to express everything FCG had learned and experienced through their journey about themselves and the gods while neatly ending their story in a really meaningful way.
