It's a big enough difference that the point would be tough to argue. Even so, it's worth noting that the article is full of "may have"s, "appears that"s and "could be"s and it is based on "a small portion of the relevant data, and it's not scientifically sampled". At least a grain of salt.
What was the baseline before Elons takeover? I know media people sometimes said the actual traffic from twitter never great but this seems like an order of magnitude worse.
It's wild. I suddenly lost like 100 followers on Twitter the other day, but now it's climbing rapidly again to more than half of what I lost. Again... all bots.
So the implication here is that users in the monetisation program are faking clicks on ads next to their content, right? I.e. it’s ad fraud from blue checks
That would be the same fake interactions and platform manipulation that was rumored to be the reason why some left leaning accounts were banned. I wonder why it's allowed hmmmm
Before leaving that dumpster fire, 99% of the engagement I got was from bots. It's a garbage site run by a garbage human. He also made it impossible to block spammers and haters, I still saw their posts in trends.
E: Eh, what if we just use the money we made selling off the furniture to pay for some bots on big game days. Spike our numbers and the advertising comes back. I'm a genius! Everybody, I think it's going to be another all nighter. If you need me I'll be in the X-ecutive suite doing _____ things.
I quit Twitter 6 months ago. Last week I clicked a link to Twitter and found that I had 50 new followers after 6 months of no activity. They were all bots pretending to be women. Fucking ridiculous.
My normal, long term account at X is mostly ok - but have experimented with a few alt accounts allowing the algorithms full control. It's insane - an ouroboros of blue-tickers posting over each other for view$, bots, subtle (and less subtle) hateful memes, unrelated posts in discussions. A cesspit!
Elmo suspended me for reposting spam/bot ads for “designer” bags in Linda Yaccarino’s mentions in order to alert them the platform was flooded with spam right before Christmas. Prolly permanent. I had ~255 followers & the posts averaged 8.2 views. Only a matter of time before I delete my account
I'm noticing an uptick on random names with the US flag 🇺🇲 next to their names that come across as Russian assets and bots.
Also too many Elon simps. I was a morbidly obsessed teenybopper as a kid and I wasn't nearly as crazy as those people.
Not a shock at all considering how badly Elon is running it and the amount of customers who have ended their advertising campaigns on twitter because of Elon
Maybe it’s this “We haven’t worked all the bugs out yet” philosophy but applied to social media.
The core problems that the field has worked on for years, that work was not from Elon and must be replaced with his own ideas
(And he has no ideas beyond “make users pay for membership”)
I was bot swarmed… I started getting violations for following too many people in a day. The limit for one day of following people on 𝕏 is 400. There’s no way I had the time to follow 400 people in one day. Being a paying customer and having this happen to me shows Elon Musk blows donkey balls.
I'm young enough to remember Elmo trying to negotiate the price he was going to have to pay for Twitter based on what he guess-timated to be the percentage of bot users. Pretty sure it's higher now.
it continues to defy logic that any brand would spend money advertising on twitter these days... media planners are supposed to make data-driven decisions, and the data has undermined the value of advertising on twitter from the time elmo took over... literally just flushing cash down the toilet
Used to get a notification on Tw(sh)itter for a follow. Not anymore. I gained 50 followers in about 2 days and wasn't notified of any of them. Only "verified" followers warrant a notification. I blocked at least 75 accts, all of which "joined" in late 2023 and had a high following but few followers
I mean, they say shocking, but is it actually shocking, maybe disappointing would be a better choice of word.
Given what he's done to a formally relatively trustworthy platform, shocking isn't a word I'd use describing twitter.
Strange… after all the courtroom fights about bots, I think I missed Elon declaring unconditional victory over the bots… almost like it was more bulljive.
