Just remember: Arts & Humanities are so useless and pointless that Tech Bros were driven to spend billions of dollars to try and get a computer to do something that badly approximates something Arts & Humanities students could do half asleep and wired on coffee the night before the due date.
I mean, mashups, pastiche, and parody are like breathing for me--I grew up on PDQ Bach and Bob & Ray. Might take me a few more minutes, but what I turn out will be infinitely better than AI.
AI only replicates, which means it loses the ability for art to critique the status quo. Capitalist utopia is when not even your art knows all this is wrong
Men will literally devote their lives to build machines to try to put an entire industry out of work as revenge for being rejected by their high school lit mag instead of going to therapy.
As a former rhetoric instructor I can say that cutting the humanities has resulted in an electorate that can’t recognize propaganda or media manipulation. At. All. They take satire literally. They believe anything they read or watch. They’re followers, not thinkers.
Ironically, their lack of humanities training keeps them from becoming content, whole human beings. At best, they can participate in some rich dipshit’s infinite capital growth scheme.
There's a brain rot that happens when society turns to say that what you do is the most important thing, that it will eventually solve everything but all of the people that are supposed to be looking up to you are looking at the dumb stupid arts.
It would be nice if the customer base of the various streaming services would start leaving en masse in response to their leadership's repugnant ass behavior.
STEM is just a bunch of overly complicated math about triangles, not a serious subject. All it’s good for is making endless quantities of shitty websites and bombs.
Neoliberal values: why pay a person to make something amazing if you can subsidize a tech bro robber baron designing software to make an enshittified copy?
The number of papers I wrote in that weird lucid state between awake and sleep, riding the wave of caffeine and nicotine while hoping the words on the screen match the words in my head…
And they had to steal all the petabytes of text input, waste megawatt-years of energy and millions of litres of water, and exploit thousands of people in digital sweatshops giving hints to the machine 24/7, to achieve their useless result
My kid’s college class schedule next semester includes a philosophy class, an anthropology class, and three art studios- animation, illustration, and drawing. It’s such a big 🖕to tech bros and STEM worshippers, I’m so proud 🥲
"Arts & Humanities are so useless and pointless" is one of the DUMBEST lines I have ever heard of! Go be DOOMER pilled somewhere else please while the rest of us do the art we love no matter if we use tech to do so or not as tech has benefitted artists!
Art is just about the only free tool people have to self-audit. Rocks on a sidewalk are enough.
Record lived experience. Preserve history. Make an individual, wild mark. Witness yourself.
War on the arts is war on humans. When everyone knows this and acts accordingly, I will know peace.
I don't understand what you mean. Look at the render quality you can achieve with machine learning. Self called artists are just jelly when faced by such magnificence!
Please read this above with the most ironic voice possible, or we are not friends anymore!
Even wired up on stimulants and half asleep with a looming deadline an actual Arts & Humanities student could do circles around algorithmic shlock the tech and finance bros are trying to pass off as "art" and "writing"
Yeah that 20 page research paper that, per the rubric, needed to have a minimum of one source annotation per sentence that I came back from winter break and found out was due... That day. And had to ask for an extension to do in 5 nights?
Humanities paper. On I think 1400s-ish Ireland.
Look up Elon Musk’s alleged favorite books and they’re all either shit you read when you are 13 (which he also happened to completely misunderstand) or biographies of “great men.” Him having no use for taking in any new information is part of the reason he is the way he is.
As an anthropology major and art history minor this post hits so incredibly close to home 😂. Im getting flashbacks to late night quad shots and desperately looking up references.
Without new arts and humanities to steal, current AIs won’t be able to make novel things. This is just attempting to drive the price of new arts and humanities down so the tech companies will be the only viable employer and then they can do what a monopsony does.
Yup; the worst students turn in AI slop at the highest rate because the better students can half-ass something the night before that's much, much better.
