In the last few weeks, both Senate and House have introduced "Congressional Review Act resolution of disapproval", an attempt to overturn the new rules. Everybody's having press conferences, AARP and SEIU have a billboard truck driving around Capitol Hill with this banner. (more)

Many states have stiffer staffing requirements already: California, for instance, with 3.5. But this is the first time the feds require it, and it follows what is arguably a staffing crunch--the industry's trade groups say homes just can't hire/afford more staff, and will have to shutter. (more)

The fight about nursing home staffing is heating up. The federal govt., which effectively* oversees most US nursing homes, announced on April 22 that facilities must have 3.48 hours stafftime per day per person. Big drama ensues! (more)

It's remarkable how crappy Google search has become, very quickly. For instance: Up into the 1960s, women's colleges still held an (annual?) formal dinner, with hats, gloves, etiquette, etc. It had a name that I don't remember. Google is no help. Anyone know what that was called?
