there’s one in Newcastle (UK) I used to visit that to my knowledge does pretty well, second-run pictures, themed-weeks, has a freestanding always-available-to-public cafe decorated with film stuff—pretty much only room for one of these in a smaller market but if it doesn’t exist…

to add a little more here, it is not that economic anxiety is fake, it is that it cannot be neatly disentangled from racial anxieties. for instance, if you are doing well but see black people doing better, you may feel anxious on account of your internalized idea of what the racial order should be.

The removal of four huge dams on northern CA's Klamath River has freed up thousands of acres of land that were forcibly taken from Indigenous people a century ago to create the dam reservoirs. Today, the Shasta got 2800 acres of their homeland back.
