if Biden wants to stay in the race he needs to do this. Just flood the zone with media appearences and get people used to stammering old guy Biden as something that's normal (or ideally a better version where he's not stammering old guy). Hiding out won't work.
And in particular, knowing the SCOTUS decisions were coming down and something like this was potentially going to happen, have speeches pre-written in advance for this. hold a press conference, denounce the decisions and the RW court — Kagan already did for him! And then take questions.
I think the Biden campaign is still operating in part on 90's style caution in terms of avoiding creating unfavorable soundbites that can be pulled out of context and drive a news cycle, and baby that horse is all the way out of the barn bsky.app/profile/thew...
might even say “I recognize last night wasn’t my best, but you’re wrong to think it’s my age and over the next 3 weeks I’ll prove it.” Maybe even say “and if I’m wrong, then I’ll have a serious chat with my campaign.” Set expectation you’re serious. Some press will be bad faith but they are anyway
Exactly. We have seen Biden do much better than he did last night! Very recently! The way you counter the narrative that he can't function is to let anyone who cares to look see that he can!
it's not like he's able to make a difference in Israel, while Congress is basically on a full 2 year lame duck session
what else does he have to do between now and November than get out there and campaign?
Agree
And all talk of replacing him needs to be scraped. Last night was a disaster, but fact remains that Joe still has a decent chance to win. Replacing him would be such a screaming bloody mess there's no way his replacement, be that Harris or anyone else, has even a longshot chance to win
