Watching a video with a bunch of congressmen saying their salary should go up to keep pace with inflation. The last time these motherfuckers raised the federal minimum wage was 2009. They can all fuck off.
Politicians wages should be tied to minimum wage. When it goes up, they also get a raise.
Their wage $174000.
40hr week = $83.65/hr.
Min wage $8/hr
40hr week = $16,640/year.
I think you're overlooking the fundamental argument that's being made there... The thing that they don't want to say out loud but is nevertheless a deeply held belief:
Some workers are more important than other workers, and deserve not only more relative value in dollars, but more care.
the fact that minimum wage isn't automatically tied to inflation is actually insane - how is the entire country not screaming at the top of their lungs about that??
like, *not* tying it to inflation is an active choice - you are choosing to decrease wages every year
Instead of raising their wage, we should build a congressional barracks where they must all live together whenever congress is in session. Just basic studio apartments but they HAVE to live there.
they can get a raise when they figure out public housing for people displaced by housing price gouging and market manipulation with no oversight onto property management entities, big and small, from any one at the FTC or SEC or HUD or nothin
It was never intended to be a permanent job. Do a couple terms then go home and go back to whatever it is that you do. You are on point, just fuck off.
god, i hate larry bucshon. he was my representative in indiana. dude would not meet with anyone he thought was against him. wouldn’t hold town halls. super conservative. all-around piece of shit.
We need a national wage law that ties the minimum wage to the GDP. It’d be around $26/hr. We also need a maximum wage law that caps ceo/politician salaries at 10x the minimum wage, so if they want a raise, everyone else gets one too.
The point of a well paid politician (or judge) is so that they do their jobs fairly, without being swayed by such base incentives like bribes.
But if they get bribes and are corrupt anyway, what's the bloody point?
My problem with the minimum wage is that giant Corporations will make excuses and price gouge people. They will pin the blame on "inflation". I believe a better solution is actually providing Universal healthcare, Universal childcare, Universal Basic Income and Universal Basic housing.
I propose a bill that allows congresspersons to increase their pay whenever they want, with the caveat that whenever they do this, the minimum wage rises by the same amount.
Actually, I'm fine with it if they want to raise their wages. But there are some concessions needed to:
1> Make it a crime to knowingly lie on the House or Senate floor, or to do lies of omission, or pretend ignorance when a social media post proves they knew their statement was false;
(1/)
You don't want to turn the job of Congressman into something that only people whose daddies own the local car dealership can afford to do.
I say pay them all a million a year and make it illegal to take money from anyone else.
