Breaking the railroad strike was good for the economy but getting a photo-op with the UAW is unforgivable and not staying neutral.

The only thing the federal government should do is provide billions of dollars in bail-out money to the Big Three while shepherding them through bankruptcy proceedings where they can discharge their obligations to workers.

This is extra silly because of the auto companies make an offer that Biden thinks is fair he has the juice to tell the UAW "take the deal" If he was neutral the UAW could say no you are actually on the side of the companies. Problem is companies dont want a fair deal even by Biden standards.

Biden already screwed the Rail workers this year so the invocation of a tradition of neutrality is pretty headass.

"The tradition of the president is to stay neutral in these things [at least after the guy who signed the NLRA, who purely coincidentally was so unfathomably popular he kept getting reelected and we had to amend the constitution to make sure it didn't happen again]"

The idea of "neutrality" in the class war even being an option, let alone presuming it's obviously the most 'noble' choice, LET ALONE thinking that of POLITICAL OFFICE HOLDERS, is just a perfect snapshot of everything wrong with US politics generally and Dems specifically. Which side are you on?

Steve Rattner went on to tell a group of billionaires that he should have made the UAW bleed more during the bailout, and that he regretted only freezing their wages—in the middle of a contract—and not actually cutting their salaries. I am not making this up, he said that in 2013, 10 year contract.

Cry more, Steve. Kind of nervous that Biden will do the photo OP and then undermine the workers in some other way, like listening to this fucker right here. I think Fein is incredibly smart to hold UAW endorsement back, and if he's smart (and we know he is) he'll continue to hold it.

I'll never defend why I watch Morning Joe (certain guests, the awfulness of other morning shows at 6am) but if there's a segment I fast-forward over every time, it's Rattner and his charts. You can read the data but some people like Rattner never seem to truly understand the data.

Like Harding stayed neutral in the 1921 coal workers’ strike? Like Eisenhower stayed neutral in the 1959 steel workers’ strike? Like Reagan stayed neutral in the 1981 air-traffic controllers’ strike? What “tradition” is he talking about?
