There it is: A position completely untethered from empirical evidence, as ridiculous analytically as it is dangerous politically, propagated by anti-liberal leftwing intellectuals who are solely animated by their disdain for “the Libs” and have abandoned any regard for accuracy.
I wrote about a this particular camp of prominent leftwing academics who are allowing their singular, disdain-driven focus on (neo-) liberalism to completely distort their perspective on the Right and on politics in general:
Seeing some radical academics decided that yes, they can make common cause with reactionary freaks over hating liberals, the early days of Italian Fascism are making more sense to me.
You know, if there's one thing our Constitution has PLENTY of, it's planning for succession should the President die or be unable to carry out their duties.
Everything is just an abstraction to them. True poaster's madness, it is all just hypotheticals to win arguments online. It's also why so many "dirtbag left" types easily switch to conservative bullshit. Top priority: dunking on people they don't like.
As a lib hating leftie loon, it is clear to me that Trump is more dangerous than the fading ghost of Joe Biden. That is why libs need to pull their heads out of their collective butts and replace him with whatever feckless centrist they deem fit. Otherwise, Trump will be president.
I think they’re both equally dangerous, and we should probably set a one-term limit on the presidency. By the way, Corey was born in Nov. 1967, and so he was a month old when 1968 dawned. He’s not a very good historian either. He has a recent piece in the New Yorker, where he even gets Freud wrong.
Even if this were true (which it's not) a "bog-standard republican" is still pretty f'ing BAD! Saying "only" a standard republican at this point is like saying, "it's only a standard case of stage 4 liver cancer"!
The Scooby Doo reveal works both ways. For Republicans, it’s an average blue collar guy but pull off his mask and it’s an evil billionaire. For Democrats, it’s a career politician but pull off his mask and it’s a progressive. The elite pundits simply hate progressive policies.
Tim Berners-Lee wrote: "[t]he goal of the Web is to serve humanity. We build it now so that those who come to it later will be able to create things that we cannot ourselves imagine."
Everyday the internet is showing me things I couldn't have imagined. Like this quote from Professor Fuckface.
And Trump is manifestly more infirm than any example they can produce for Biden.
They are just desperate to pretend Trump isn't also old and isn't obviously way more decrepit than Biden.
Lest we forget, "bog standard" Republican presidents brought us 9/11, the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, the Great Recession, Abu Ghraib, Iran-Contra, the HIV pandemic, and the fact that every graph about living wages flattens out in 1981
It is definitely redefining "big standard Republican" to mean things which, as a 54 year old, do not coincide with any of my memories of Republicans (or anyone else) in US government.
And also, what about Stephen Miller?
I want a paper to do a series on the mid-level people in the administration who are making Biden's new policies a reality. Kind of the opposite to Diner Guy.
To respond to this db guy: Trump was constrained by some normie gop and advisors. Since then, the gop has culled those normies out of the party and he'll be going into a 2nd term with focused anti-govt loyalists. Trump will not be as constrained this time around.
Daniel Bessner: the guy who exists to tell Amber A'lee Frost that it's okay she keeps hanging out with her Red Scare friends now that they're into race science and transphobia
There’s a certain genre of “leftist” on social media, who need to tell everyone how very leftist they are, while exclusively whining about “liberals,” giving constant free passes to the far right, and being pretty damn racist. We all need to be wary of them.
