“National greatness” is a pernicious lie in any context.

“Russians and Americans have a lot in common—much of it unhealthy—including an ‘imperial provincialist’ outlook, a tendency toward grandiosity and conspiracy theories, and a penchant for violence”

There’s so much of this shit with people in Trumps orbit. Stephen Miller once ran in the middle of a girls track meet to go “I am a man, I am better at sports”. No point to any of it except to be an awful human being.

Remember how the "retail theft crime wave" disappeared as soon as companies had to do their annual reports? That's because it's illegal to lie to shareholders.

Ah fuck. Everyone who told me Chevron being overturned wouldn’t matter can kindly have a seat now. I don’t really consider myself an expert in much but considering I’ve been working in health regs for the past almost 8 years, I knew this was 100% coming. I just didn’t think it would be so fast 😭

Over at the Bad Place, I made a tradition of posting Douglass' "What, To The Slave, Is The Fourth of July," and I intend to carry on that tradition here. Since most versions you read in classes or in textbooks have parts omitted, the link below has the full text of the speech.

Keir Starmer, the future prime minister, explicitly saying that trans women don’t have the right to use women’s toilets, which we have always been using, is giving the green light for people to harass us and do violence to us, as well as to cis women deemed not feminine enough. Don’t vote Labour.

This won’t even satisfy trans-eliminationists like JK Rowling. Every time a concession is made by cis politicians, they demand more. This all started off as “concerns about GRA reform” and we’re now at the point where “gender-critical” freaks are effectively demanding our social death.

Jesus. Automated enforcement advocates really underestimate the potential for abuse with these cameras. The amount of information they collect is staggering, as is the ability to piece it all together to meticulously track individual people.

Conceding the premise that the presidency is a show and all that matters is how it’s perceived and not what it can do has infected our entire politics, and given Republicans carte blanche to be incompetent because it doesn’t matter that they fail it only matters that they can sell it as success
