#Metoo ruined lives: the women’s. For the summer issue of Bookforum, I wrote about Christine Blasey Ford’s memoir “One Way Back,” the aftermath of disclosure, and what it means to be a public survivor when storytelling has proven futile. www.bookforum.com/culture/disp...
If I had a sub sandwich shop I’d offer Shrapnel Bowls made of all the sandwich trimmings and debris that gets scraped off the cutting board and for an extra dollar we’d cover it all in garlic mayo and it’d become the most popular thing on the menu and Shrapnel would be a billion $ chain in a year.
It’s pretty alarming how the reporters suddenly devoted to watchdogging Biden can’t tell the difference between real drastic glitches like in the debate and normal fumbling
I'm not interested in arguing with people who have been doing this.
Please understand that the thing I think you're accomplishing, wittingly or not, is making people with stories feel like they can't come forward.
lemme be clear here
if the dem nominee is a ham sandwich, i'm getting ham sandwich stickers and writing gotv postcards and helping cure ballots for ham sandwich 2024.
but anyone who thinks biden dropping off the ticket will not be met with weird gop ratfucking chaos just fell off a turnip truck.
I have way too many friends who were supportive of the #MeToo movement, who shouted "believe women!" who are now defending someone because they really like this person's work. That's not how this works, folks.
Either you support and believe women or you don't. 1/
I won't be breaking confidences. If others wish to speak up, they will do so when they're ready.
But sleeping with the nanny within hours of meeting her? You -really-think there was no sense of pressure or power imbalance? If you think that's fine, we have nothing to discuss anyway.
It's pretty interesting what the media decides is front page news and what they don't decide is front page news! Trump being a child sex abuser with close connections to Jeffrey Epstein somehow doesn't merit the same coverage as "unnamed Dem insider has concerns about Biden's age"
I am saying survivors shared multiple stories. Some were about rich, powerful men who have repeatedly managed silence those they hurt. I do not have permission to share those stories. One woman was afraid of being drummed out of publishing because the details her account were so specific.

Yeah it's normal to feel betrayed by someone when you admire their work. It's normal to scramble to fit this new info into your understanding of them. It's normal to hope there's a mistake.
But these are things you can work out privately rather than in a public forum where survivors see your words.
If you're scrambling to make excuses for someone who has done something terrible just because you admire them, please unfollow me. We're not on the same page.
It's a lot. I posted about one perpetrator at the survivor's request and the world chose to dismiss the account because 'he seemed so cool and nice'.
And people wonder why many survivors just struggle silently. ☹️
We're officially living in our new condo now!
Tomorrow, we have the gas company coming out, a water heater installation, and someone who's doing a shower door and some accent tile.
It's gonna be a wild ride.
Recently someone asked me what I do for a living.
I said, "I write books."
In the olden days, this was met with excitement and oh-so-many questions.
This time, the dude gave me a quizzical look. "Do people still read books?"
😭
It is a bold choice to put yourself in a dating profile dressed as a giant pickle.
After so many naked chests and "suns out guns out" pics, I respect it.
einstein sent this to curie in 1911 when she was being harassed by tabloids. it contains everything you’d want in such a letter:
(1) your haters are trash
(2) you’re a baller, a true queen
(3) i have determined the statistical law of motion of the diatomic molecule in planck’s radiation field 🧪⚛️
I'm excited about moving into our permanent home, but I'm also flinching over how much it costs to move.
And that's within the same town!
Anyone who says, "Just leave" clearly doesn't understand the economic challenges involved with a big geographic relocation.
