To everyone who wants Bluesky to be a success, especially now that Elon is going further down the antisemitism hole, a few tips. A short thread 🧵
1. Repost other people’s posts. This is essential. Please.
2. Also like other people’s posts.
3. Over-follow lots of people

I'd add that finding a biggish account you followed on Twitter here on bluesky and going though their follows/followers is usually a way to find other accounts you may know or would like interacting with
I think some administration changes could also help. Basically allowing people to sign up, but be muted. It’d let ppl sign up immediately, and maybe even without codes, after a grace period they’d get full rights. Because the email list hardly works, and having something semi automated might work.
NO.
Your suggestions make no sense.
The functionality of Bluesky is currently rubbish and the communication to the membership is poor.
The vibe is good - following indiscriminately is hardly going to help that.
I've been trying to do these things. Trying to interact with new followers, etc, I like it here. However, I still go to Twitter X. I have several accounts I follow there that aren't fully set up here. They created accounts but don't fully use them. They need video.
I'm going to try graysky.
🙂
This is great advice and information. But I could do without the sneering image of Buddy every time someone reposts it. Sorry. That sounds bitchy. I don't mean it to be. I'm just tired of his face.
2 I have no problem giving everyone like, but not being attributed to me, why should I be treated? Most of us come from Twitter, people have to change access to keep this place, not just get a lik, and only follow them, give love back, if it changes, personally, I will give most of my time. To BSKY
I would like to, explain more clearly, in order to implement the instructions properly
1 to advertise who? Each?
3 What do you mean to follow each one? Even unrelated to 3D art?
I really like the BSKY at least until now I haven't seen anti -Semitism against my people {Jews} about this I thank you
My problem re staying off X/twitter is that I've seen the hideous antisemitism on there and feel I must stand up against it, however futile it might seem.
All good advise, but my posts are trash so:
Reposting them is a bad idea
Liking them is a bad idea
Following me is an even worse idea.
I basically self shadow ban by posting dumb and unoriginal content.
If you could also all follow @trackotheday.bsky.social for a wee bit we’ll pop a new track everyday on your timeline from all over the musical multiverse! Elon free of course… Thanks!
You are completely right. I‘m trying to follow some of your tips already. A vivid timeline is essential that Bsky will be able to replace twitter. Still I‘m visiting X, but it’s getting less and less.
Also focus on what you like not on what you hate! Giving any attention to terrible things increases the likelihood people will see it, so be selective!
I'm trying to lure my favorite writers over to Bluesky. SER is here, and Places that Cats Shouldn't Be are here, so that's an excellent start. For me, anyway.
I dropped my Twitter subscription years ago and specifically signed up at Bluesky for this reason. So far I've been pleasantly surprised by the quality of discourse.
I try to grow my account but then get discouraged by the antagonistic nature of so many people’s social media philosophy. Does everything have to be a team sport? I hate sports!
Every couple of days I get on the search function and follow about 10 new accounts that are suggested to me and look interesting, lots of scientists and historians.
This at best could be an amazing opportunity to re make a social media platform in a better way. If enough people follow a positive approach so much could be achieved ☘️🤞🧘🏻♀️
This is all good advice, but I’d be more likely to share it if it didn’t have Fuckface von Clownstick’s face so prominently displayed. Who needs that stinking up their timeline?
Mom, what caused the Great Twitter Crash of 2023?
Well, what else causes a great, democratic digital forum to collapse?
An anti-Semite masquerading as a free speech advocate who allows a Trojan horse filled with Neo-Nazis to dismantle everything sacred?
You answered your own question sweetie.
If you’re used to reposting someone else’s post 1 or 2 times a day, then please increase this to 10 times a day. It helps with the engagement on Bluesky
If you’re used to liking 10 people’s posts per day, try being a bit more generous and do this 20 times a day.

nobody needs to see Leon's face.
NOBODY.
Stop reposting that racist bigot anti-semite's face .
I left twitter 2 months ago, and people keep dragging that shit-stain's face into view, needlessly.
I am not going repost your otherwise sound advice because you attached it to that photo.
how about we have some features like video upload and DMs? We need also more features so there is more appeal for the platform. Also is worth sharing those invitations as soon as possible so the platform grows.
Trying my best, but I am too missing some crucial features like trending topics. I am being patient but I'm also increasingly annoyed bc bsky isn't really active on its own platform, it seems. But maybe I'm just having an Else Kling moment ((old) German insider ^^).
I think, at the moment, the more you put in, the more you get out
I wish there was more Breaking News and more big hitters on the political front … but it is happening
I think (hope) this will be the go-to
Hang on in there everyone
I don't know enough about how bsky's anti-bot mechanics work for me to be risking my account 'over-following'
Also I can't take serious anyone who knowingly willingly posts pictures of Elmo on bsky 😂
Thanks for the advice. Being on a site where you won't get reach-limited or shadow-banned for interacting enthusiastically takes a bit of getting used to. Feels good to be free of those restrictions.
I'd rather it were successful & useful/enjoyable.
I understand your passion but most tips here feel like they're increasing the noise to signal ratio.
I'll repost stuff I think is useful, but only ever once. I use 'like' sparingly on all platforms, to me it then holds more weight.
Agree w/all.
A problem here and on Mastodon, esp. for "big accounts", is expecting to be fed eyeballs by algorithm. Interact, say cool/funny/interesting things, share cool things you find. Building an audience isn't about gaming keywords; it's about being worth interacting with on your own merits.
Great suggestions! Very helpful to me as a newbie. On Bluesky just over a week and haven't been certain as to what the routine is here. A number of people I followed on the other site had stopped tweeting, so happy to find them posting here. Totally want Bluesky to grow and thrive!
reasons why people might want to follow me:
- I have funny and interesting things
- you won't find a poster like me anywhere else on bluesky
- I read really cool articles
- I follow and reskeet lots of good art and other good posters
- I am smart and insightful
- I wanna make it to 200
If you're new and want to get more in your feed, find a couple of celebrities* who are very active and follow them. Follow ppl who make good posts. Repeat.
I'm using social media for business reasons. While I do enjoy a lot of aspects of Blue Sky if I don't see the needle move on my businesses due to interaction here, then I won't be using it much more than facebook.
Blue Sky needs to be a business gateway for small businesses.
It took me a month to quit Twitter entirely after coming here. Give yourselves breathing room, post early, post often, and most important of all, post Alf Hog
Also, try not to care whether or not anyone follows you, don't post just for the sake to trying to get engagement, even though it works more often than it should, it's a net environmental downgrade for everyone else.
Love this! I want to get back to the ‘social’ part of social media - actual interactions, sharing - digitally ‘meeting’ new & interesting people. While I respect output only account choices, to me the interactions are where it’s at otherwise we all end up passively scrolling and liking not engaging
The trouble is Daniel, I am not seeing what I want to see on here: I think it was you said there are no algorithms ? But my timeline is 90% full of happy clappy pictures of dogs cats and sunsets and tweets (or whatever) that are just nonsense. It’s not what I come for. Still more news on Twitter.
I heavily disagree with the over-following. I'm not going to follow a tonne of people without vetting bc I don't need bigots in my feed. I also don't follow folks back who don't use alt text.
Find topics that are important to you and follow the people talking about them 🤷
I fully support the first two. I'm just not sure about (3.). I'd much rather follow a few people who are prepared to engage with me than hundreds who'll never read my replies, let alone my actual posts. 😅
