Content of Starmer’s speech. Like a reassuring relative. Calm. Not tribal or triumphalist. Inclusive. Proof is in the eating but the smell from the kitchen is promising.

Another scrap one: melting down a bunch of lead in a pan on a campfire… fire gets a bit out of control, so we throw a bucket of water on it causing the contents of the pan to explode and showering us in molten lead shrapnel.

We would collect scrap metal, and identified an ‘opportunity’ in a large cable running alongside an abandoned railway bridge… we started on one end with a hacksaw while I cleared away the other end. BOOM! it was the main supply to a nearby village… we got away with a melted hacksaw & a few burns.

Climbed up a tree, but couldn’t be arsed to climb down again, so just jumped out… almost nailed the rolled landing, but left arm got in the way and snapped.
Would go mushroom picking with Dad… me & brothers ate some raw in the back of the car & promptly started throwing up everywhere.

Love this thread!
One of my earliest memories: bending over & holding onto a climbing frame while trying to spin around… lifted my head back and caught the lower bar and semi-scalped myself like a boiled egg. ~50 years later, crescent moon shaped scar still very visible if I have a short haircut.

• balanced a full bucket of water on top of my bedroom door to ‘deter intruders’. Forgot about it. Opened door. Knocked myself unconscious and woke up drenched.
• has a most unfortunate incident with the hot tap on a bidet. Again, knocked myself unconscious and burnt my hoop.

This is so cool! Frog & amphibian have been dessimated by the disease chytridiomycosis, caused by a fungal pathogen. Researchers have realised that the fungi is heat intolerant so little brick saunas for frogs can help kill the fungi! Recovered frogs more resistant to further infxn 🧪

Britain decided but we won’t get back square one. Yet another broken Tory promise.

If UK hae copied swedish system (proportional 349 seats, 4% national/12% regional cutoff) it would be:
Lab 123
Tor 86
Ref 52
LD 44
Green 25
SNP 9
SF 3
Alliance 2
PC 2
DUP 2
UUP 1
So majorities could be: Lab+LD+Green or Lab+LD+SNP or Tor+Ref+LD

One overlooked issue with all these Tory losses is that the Daily Telegraph is going to end up being thicker than a phone book with so many new columnists

Labour won decisively by playing to 2024 conditions. It shifted to the right, took advantage of Conservative implosion and division. It told its left leaning urban constituency - young voters and ethnic minorities - to get lost, and gambled correctly that losses in urban areas won't matter.

- Labour's vote spread was way more efficient than under Corbyn. Brilliant groundgame
- Tory vote was cannibilized by Reform
- soft tories stayed at home, unlike with Corbyn
- Labour will need to win back the votes lost due to terrible trans and gaza policies
ALL THESE THINGS CAN BE TRUE AT ONCE

At least the Greens will get as much coverage as Reform across all the channels now.

The clear lesson Farage needs to learn from the Lib Dems is that you get more seats by doing stunts. But because his voters are rock hard, unlike those woke yoghurt drinkers, the stunts he does should all be exceptionally dangerous
