well, there is strong evidence that debates don't change much, but hysterical hair-on-fire media panics definitely do, and that's what has been happening for the last several days

It’s clarifying that people immediately turned the Court ruling - against what anyone with half a clue knows to be true - into “okay this gives Biden permission to drone strike the court” so they could smoothly turn it into a Democrat’s fault

Yeah. It's not your job to try to convince people who long for cleansing fire that they should save themselves.
Find someone who wants to live, and help them.

people are not in possession of true and valid information, they are huffing someone's farts who is huffing someone's farts who is huffing someone's farts in a gigantic human centipede of fart huffing
inasmuch as it's deliberate it's fucking despicable
inasmuch as it's not it's fucking embarassing

but all a lot of people want right now is an excuse to, come November, say "ehhh I'm not voting for the Democrats because they let bad things happen" and, I mean, we have a lot of words for those people and I think maybe we should use more of them, more often

yeah like... i run a furry telegram politics chat and a BIG part of that chat is people having conversations with each other trying to keep each other from falling into despair. if you can collect your friends, if there are ppl willing to actually listen to you? absolutely it's worth it

perhaps there’s a leap of faith there, but you exist in a social media culture engineered to crush your spirit. get better. stop perpetuating it. I’m done mincing words

“I’m depressed, I’ve heard the same things over and over” yes. we all live in the world. we’re grown-ups. to me, your doomer takes are things I’ve heard a thousand times. it seems to me that you have a choice: live in a world with hope, or one without one.

when you say to others that you believe positivity is empty, you are spreading despair. you have no more right to spread that than you do infectious disease
I tolerated this sort of thing on Twitter, became a part of and an agent of it, and I will always regret this. despair ruins lives

people love to throw around the word “abuse” on this site, and I guess I’ll jump in there too: I think that colloquially, apocalyptic political doomsaying is a form of abuse (and I will drop the “colloquial” and say it’s literally so if you’re an Influencer/Important Person with fans)

you may not be able to “snap out of” depression due to the political situation, but you do not get to spread your despair to others, ESPECIALLY not by jumping into the mentions of multiple people who are trying to spread responsible, sober sensibility (I won’t even say positivity)

obviously no one is morally responsible for not being depressed. however, if you personally need help, you need to ask for that. help for *you*
no one can magically the world other than it is. if you have despair, you have to fix the despair - venting “the world sucks” to everyone just spreads harm

it's time to stop engaging with Bad Takes and people who have them. just throw them away. they're garbage. there are people willing to take the problems we have as a polity seriously and do the work and they are not poasting Takes to convince themselves it's okay to stay home on Election Day.

I keep coming back to "all this for literally Donald Trump," but it fits. There's not some more competent aspiring autocrat who'd somehow "earn" or "win" this. This is how it has always gone: feckless/evil elites attaching themselves to the sociopath they believe will get them where they want to go.

In 2016, Hillary Clinton gave a speech in Wisconsin about the importance of the Supreme Court.
She warned that 2016 was "make or break" for the court—and the country.
National media—focused on her emails and Trump's antics—barely covered the speech.

It’s a great day to talk to your friends about being willing to support and encourage Supreme Court reform! This is not a problem that can be solved With A Stroke If A Pen and we need to take it seriously accordingly.

That “Black jobs” seems to be the main thing from the debate to go actually viral on social media should give certain columnists some pause about their pulse on the campaign.

At the same time the Saudis gave Trump's son in law $2,000,000,000 and started making huge production cuts that spiked the price of oil under Biden! but hey that's not as interesting as Clinton's email server apparently bsky.app/profile/grud...

Which has generated more New York Times app push notifications and front page headlines? Hillary Clinton NOT getting indicted for mishandling classified documents or Donald Trump actually getting indicted for mishandling classified documents? Why would that be the case?
