yes, we boiled the planet, but it was worth it to make a machine that, instead of adding two plus two, takes the statistical average of every answer to questions containing "what" "is" "two" and "plus" from a database of illegal cell phone transcripts and returns a fake nude pic of a high schooler

Like he could trade a dozen Republican senators pardons in exchange for self-enriching schemes of their own design. Do your insider trades, do your self dealing I’ll pardon you, but you gotta resign or vote my way.

Right ok this was my sense. He needs a compliant Congress to impeach or pack the courts and how does he get that today, before November? The bad ways. “Won’t someone rid me of this meddlesome priest?” (Wink, I have unlimited pardon power) He doesn’t have to get them assassinated necessarily.

Yeah ok. I was talking about cries today/right now to use his dictatorial power to get rid of dictatorial power. Per the top of the thread bsky.app/profile/figg...
I guess we all agree: The president could get together with Congress and do something about a corrupt SCOTUS.

(Right the latter case involves a compliant Congress, which you get how?) Again I’m just a dummy on the internet, not a lawyer, so I don’t get how the President can just put six people on the scotus at his command.

The President doesn’t impeach. He pardons or kidnaps or kills. If he wants impeachment to happen he needs leverage and the only leverage he has is the bad kind mafia dons like. Or am I wrong? What executive action shapes the court that isn’t wondering why no one assassinates a Justice?

Imagine for one second if the NYT marshaled its massive influence towards voter registration, towards supporting voting rights groups, towards encouraging people to vote and fighting people who try to stop people from voting. Imagine if the NYT actually championed participatory democracy.

I guess he could publicly wish someone tough would kill 4 SC justices and enough of Congress to assure his preference and then pardon anyone that picked up the hint. Install a new quorum, and THEN start doing the rest of the assassinations himself when SC will back his immunity claims.

Can a president just order INS to deport whomever to wherever? Who would stop him? The conscience of the agent? What about the next in line when the disloyal agent gets disappeared?

When the President can pardon anyone on his own conscience it’s also not a world where the dear leader’s vigilantes and stochastic terrorists just let you exist freely being his enemy.

oh, you might say, the president can’t issue corrupt pardons. ah. but john roberts says that not only can he issue corrupt pardons, but if he tells his staff they are corrupt in the course of issuing them, that evidence is inadmissible in the event that you could somehow prosecute the corruption

Agree. Just like the deportation plan is not localized and would require just massive amounts of labor and violence, it is still on the table. Not trying to argue at all. Those of us that need meds or treatment are boned in either case. Lots of ways to kill us that aren’t cops.
