For example, read their "Index of Military Strength" - something they regard as a marquee work product. Who is this for? Does anyone expect a serious policymaker to use this to do anything? It's methodology is basically "researchers wave hands." It's purpose is to create an annual Fox News segment

Project 2025 is just a new name on top of the policy planning they've done before every presidential election. The difference is that we're all expecting Trump to staff the government with more of the far-right faction of the party than center-right faction in contrast to 2016.

I know that Heritage is a boogeyman right now, somewhat deserved. But as someone who has read more of their work product than pretty much anyone: this is not a well-oiled machine of an organization in 2024. They are less capable than ever at actually pulling off something like this.

I completely agree that the economy will always be the primary concern, but this is an election about turnout. And issues like Biden’s age are the kind of thing that turns otherwise disengaged “maybe I should vote” voters into “what’s the point if they’re both old senile men” non-voters.

I think Heritage has given up on policy as something that should be grounded in details. They have a bunch of conservative positions, increasingly Christian nationalist, and will put up whatever thin veneer of argument they need to come to that position. Huge contrast with pre-DeMint Heritage.

Finished today Thinking about in terms of my Polar class which focuses on extended party network, inequality, and intraparty dynamics as drivers of polar. My students could read all of it with a little prep on two chapters that use more stats. The broader discussions in non-case study chapters

From my experience going to events, meeting candidates, and polling for the 2020 Iowa Caucuses, there was a huge difference between Harris as a candidate and the campaign she ran. In person, she was the best candidate I met (and I met basically all of them).

Those who did this are likely too young to remember Kony 2012, but the underlying idea (that stunts -> awareness -> policymakers' attention -> meaningful action) is symptomatic of our era. There's no "right" way to protest, but some methods are far less effective than others. Fame isn't enough.
