I talk to animals constantly. The most frequent thing I say, though, is “Oh, dude, *no*,” usually to squirrels being brainless but also to small raccoons and the occasional spider failing to respect personal space. They sometimes also get a “Seriously?!”

lord help us my mother has started lurking on the interwebs and reading the things the youngs say and last week I had to explain what AFAB stands for and 3 days ago she asked what the C in ACAB stands for and I have found out she told my dad that I explained to her ACAB is Assigned Cop At Birth fml

A few years ago, Jon Lovett floated a theory that media treats Democrats like protagonists - to be challenged, accounted, and forced to be behave in growth-oriented ways - while the GOP are treated like antagonists - immutable, expected to disrupt, thematic obstacles. Thinking about that a lot.

“Safe foods” makes a lot of sense as a concept, especially for some of my family. Food is so fraught—it involves navigating so many, often cultural, assumptions about what it means to be both host and guest, and being responsible as a parent. That last one is a hell of a minefield.

~Doing the same thing at the same time is meaningless!

For example, did you know you can do that whenever your teeth feel gross & it has nothing to do with time of day? Do these things whenever you think of them/want to!

In case anyone hereabouts is in or near Ottawa: you can catch something I wrote being performed at the Ottawa Fringe Festival! Kelly Robson, A. M. Dellamonica & I each wrote a monologue for Margo MacDonald on the theme of "uncanny abduction," & the result is DRESSED AS PEOPLE. Only 5 shows remain!

At the end of my work email, I accidentally typed 'beset" instead of "best." I did change it to "best," which was the proper professional thing to do, but truly I regret the accuracy lost in not using "beset." #amediting

In 1994 the Pet Shop Boys were invited to perform 'Go West' at the Brit Awards.

They agreed and brought with them 3 separate choirs of miners. Some of those miners had marched with the gay and lesbian members of LGSM in the 1980s. It is one of the great, near-lost music moments

I hesitate to plant anything edible, knowing I am just feeding the wildlife. But hope springs eternal, and the tomatoes are in the ground. They’ve learned not to eat the quince, though (ha!).

Maybe it’s because we are close to the valley, but the wildlife around here is thick on the ground (and in the trees, and in the attic). I don’t remember so much of it in the ‘burbs, even. But I am happy to see it all and not live in a human monoculture, even with these little jerks around.
