It’s a very obscure question but I did some research and it turns out that the president who led us out of the Depression and kicked Hitler’s ass was actually in a wheelchair? Who knew?
Fake news! Not a single MAGA-approved book will ever lead them to that kind of information. There's NO way we could have ever had a president that couldn't walk, wheelchairs and walkers weren't invented until after the Internet (because nothing existed before the Internet).
JFK needed a back brace to stay upright and his Addison’s was way worse than anyone knew. But for Lee Oswald, he could have been at least partially disabled by the end of his second term.
The Republicans all hate him because he dared to use the government to help all people, not just the privileged. (Yes, he made a lot of mistakes, No, he didn't help everybody. But he did help a lot...)
I had assumed it was similar with Biden - that he had physical mobility issues (stiffness, etc. that precipitated the "biden old" narrative) but that the issues were purely physical, not cognitive. The debate changed that.
I don't know how sarcastic or genuine anyone is being but I'm Canadian and I knew about Roosevelt having polio and being in a wheelchair. But this might be because I started learning trans & disability activism & intersectional feminism on my own time some 15-20 years ago.
FDR did a lot to conceal his disability. Ableism was really fierce at the time, and he wanted to project vigor. It was heroic, and clever. Aides would carry a standing FDR to a podium, holding him up by his powerful arms. And then he’d use those arms to stay up while he spoke.
If you can't speak in well enunciated sentences that you make up in your own head on the spot, you shouldn't be president. I don't know why this is so hard to accept OR FERVENTLY DESIRE.
We talk about Republicans racing for the bottom but this is being at the bottom already and circling the wagons.
I wonder if Biden could sell his image better if he didn't try to hide whatever his weaknesses might be, but went all in. Like he just rolled up in a wheelchair or injected himself on camera. "What are you going to do about it?"
It's telling how much has changed, since the news media back then specifically omitted FDR's use of a wheelchair and other such aids from most of their news reports and broadcasts, on request from his administration.
Today's news platforms would have ripped FDR to shreds.
The Economist. Of all magazines.
When Biden and team has literally shaped the best economic recovery during this Covid pandemic than every other country in the world?
When stock market and NASDAQ higher than ever?
They are that thirsty for making sure Trump's tax cuts don't expire in 2025?
The one who fathered a kid and married his business partners daughter (2 different women), saw it as his job to veto everything, in non-consecutive terms, becoming chief justice to uphold his interpretation of his administration & future - had secret jaw cancer surgery.
Fuh-lawed!
As for the SCOTUS decision on immunity, I think we can all remember studying how FDR had Chicago Mayor Cermak assassinated while he was sitting right next to him. Never prosecuted.
