I travel. I take photos. I like mountains & beaches & Blazers basketball & wasting time on the internet.
You'll see a lot of Earth science stuff on this feed along with my photography and just a sprinkle of sports and politics.

#Beryl is now forecast to be a cat 4 storm before it reaches the Windward Islands tomorrow AM!
At this rate it may become the strongest June hurricane on record in the Atlantic.
As of now the strongest is Audrey 1957. That was in the Gulf, where June hurricanes are more common.

Refs are really doing it to my man Andersen in this Germany / Denmark game. Can't have the host nation lose in the first knockout round, can we? Total BS.

I would say "petted" then immediately pause awkwardly to wonder if I misspoke, then say "pet?" then say "petted" with greater certainty, then continue my sentence. So basically, you do not want to have a conversation with me if you're in a hurry.

Oh my god, this is fucking huge. It was huge when we developed a daily PrEP pill that could prevent you from catching HIV; this is a successful phase III trial of a PrEP shot that will only need to be given *twice a year*. Still needs a confirmatory Phase III, but holy fuck.

I think a lot of politicians and political reporters think "low info voter" is like someone who isn't following congressional budget negotiations when actual low-info voters are like "guy who thinks the president appoints the NFL commissioner and are mad at him for suspending a player on their team"

I go pretty hard with the film watching in the winter months. It's pretty much all I want to do. But in the summer it's almost impossible to get me into a dark theater.

Question: Which saves more gas?

A) Improving a car’s fuel economy from 25 to 50 MPG
B) Improving from 10 to 15 MPG

If you said A, you’re mistaken. You've fallen for the MPG Illusion, which has long distorted US car & climate policy.

A little late, but: a few weeks ago I had the pleasure of interviewing Erik Larson about his new book, “The Demon of Unrest,” about Ft. Sumter and the start of the (first?) Civil War. Despite the opinion of a certain major periodical, you should read it. 🧵

If anyone is interested, I posted my favorite 30 shots or so from Friday’s auroa spectacular. I’m very glad the event gradually ramped-up so I could hone my photo settings (I’d never see an aurora in my 46yrs!). Not too shabby for my first time, I think!
