look I understand an aversion to things like dog and cat and stuff, but if youre gonna try and make eating goat a taboo, you will simply be laughed out of the entire rest of the world. YOU EAT SHEEP
I've had goat meat a couple times, and honestly, I didn't care for it either time, but I'm not saying I'd never eat it again.
I think the only time I liked lamb meat was when it was mixed with ground beef for kofta.
I don’t think goat eating is a taboo in general (except for those who keep them as pets.). I do think a lot of white Americans think it’s odd. I wouldn’t mind trying goat but I’m pretty sure it would taste better done by someone who knows how.
goat is amazing!
a goat taco with a mango margarita (or for a non alcoholic option, frozen mango juice or a mandarin jarritos) 🤤
goat curry
lamb vindaloo
neither goat nor lamb are difficult to get in cincinnati (altho only a few places have goat tacos)
No, no, no. Stop. Let it be taboo so the people who know the truth can still get curry goat, goat stew, or whatever the Ethiopian goat dish is on the cheap.
Yeah I don’t really find eating goat taboo. It’s not something I’m craving (neither is lamb for that matter) to eat but I get it and don’t really have an aversion to it.
I don’t know what the fuck this woman is on about or why anyone is giving her credence, I’m a white american, I eat goat, I’ve never heard anyone express a taboo or issue with it.
Now, it’s not common in American cooking, that’s for sure. But neither is kangaroo and there’s no taboo.
I'm going to eat any meat I am served. Goat is delicious, mutton/lamb is a bit lacking in flavor. Ostrich/emu are good, I'd like to try kangaroo. Like making a meat besides human taboo seems ridiculous. Humans have prions.
Also, goats are *delicious*.
(Relatedly, I have some very white American friends who raise goats for meat, and who always name them things like Taco and Curry just so everyone knows the score.)
…what fucking taboo about eating goats. I am a white American and I have never heard of this taboo. like, it’s not a common meat here, but I’ve never encountered it being *taboo* beyond, like, fucking vegans who consider all meat taboo.
Idk I feel like we barely eat lamb. It's impossible to get actual mutton in me experience and lamb is hit or miss in supermarkets outside of cities. I see goat once in a while but usually frozen and in big bags, for people who know. They've got an unfair rep as being gamy for a lot of people.
Most Americans don't eat sheep either. Lamb is a rare luxury here unless you know a sheep farmer.
But it IS about race/class and about it being something brown people eat, unfortunately.
They're missing out!
Goats are fine eating.
Dogs our are friends, they helped us build civilization, eating them is an insult to all that I think.
We should eat cats because they'd eat us but as is typical of that relationship they're always on top for reasons no one can explain.
Believe me even "Americans" if they get hungry enough will eat goats, dogs, cats, rats and even little bunny rabbits.....just like two thirds of the rest of the world....
Yeah I wouldn't go so far as to say it's socially forbidden, but white people here don't eat much goat. I dunno why not.
My area is super mixed, like, Veg-All style? A little from everywhere. 😄 So we've got several international markets that carry it. But that's unusual.
Imagine the phrenology guys that you know had to establish once and for all which fuzzy animals are of the *sinister orient* and which are okay to eat in *rational civilization.* Mustaches curled right up through their ear canals.
