people on here are relatively in tune with the ongoing AI push, but imagine how many relatively offline people are seeing Google suggest they bake glue into their pizza and wondering what the fuck is going on
Or how many people are going to get less obviously off the wall stuff and not realize it’s AI garbage. I want to spend less time as tech support to my older family members, not more, this will make that dream impossible.
I keep thinking about the people googling in areas where they're not knowledgeable enough to know the instructions are harmful.
Like if you're just learning how to do laundry, and it tells you add both bleach and vinegar to the washload. Or you find a stray cat and it tells you to feed them milk.
Google getting clamped down because they get Pritzker elected after it's "AI" says Chicago style hot dogs are made with cheese and ketchup causing the Nomads For Pritzker memes to come to pass is the funniest timeline.
I’m less opposed to AI than some (ChatGPT is a handy tool on occasion, even if it’s far too unreliable for final products) but the search results stuff is just awful. Might be the single biggest downgrade to search functionalities ever, and they’ve been getting worse for a while. DuckDuckGo ftw
part of me wants to say 'nobody would be that clueless' but i've seen people who dont know how escalators work and that you cant just go up the down one so uh
yeah that's probably gonna be bad
My thoughts too. How many people would go "Oh, so you mean like the paste we had as a kid? Throw some of that on my pizza? Sure! They wouldn't put something unsafe on such a well respected site as Google!"
I remember the insanity over the Tide Pod food memes resulting in a stigma of "idiot trend-chasing youngsters". Imagine the insanity from AI suggesting to add toxic substances to food in such a serious tone...
