RIP, Joe Flaherty, one of the best to ever do it in sketch, on SCTV, and then so funny as Mr. Weir on Freaks and Geeks, you could see Linda Cardellini & John Francis Daley struggling to stay in character on what must have been the most usable takes. (Imagine how hard they laughed in the others.) 1/2
A small part but stands out to me is him at the end of Back To The Future 2, as the very sinister-seeming Western Union messenger, who immediately becomes quite affable after the reveal.
I always wanna yell “Quit monkeying with that thing!” like him in One Crazy Summer (with the army walkie-talkie) when my kids are messing with stuff, but I know nobody else in my house will know what I’m talking about.
I met him at an Freaks and Geeks press event and was struggling to find a delicate way to how glad I was to have him on TV again. By the time I'd haltingly said, "It's so good to see...," he jumped in to say, "To see me working again? Yeah, it's good for me, too." 2/2
Their giggling at him is such a critical part of what makes the family dynamic work, and it never occurred to me until now that it was organic and they were breaking - it totally makes sense though! God, what a perfect TV show.
I remember the first time I saw Monster Chiller Horror Theater when I was a kid. I thought it was real. The 3D glasses you had to send away for, announced right before the movie started. Great stuff
He walked out of 1941 with his head held high. His Raoul Lipschitz was as funny as the name implies. Wish i could find a clip of him as the tired and tipsy Raoul at the end of the night after all the mayhem. But here he is with a flying blond floozy.
His reprisal of Count Floyd for The Wet Secrets’ video The Nightlife is one of my favorite things ever. The love you see for him at the and off the video is endearing.
