They are breaking down. I just saw somebody call Trump “gay” because of this post. I’m not sure his campaign can recover from this. The GOP should consider running a replacement.

"Even before the debate, the media studiously minimized Trump’s criminal convictions, fascist rantings, verbal diarrhea and his use of language literally out of Adolf Hitler’s playbook. Instead, they decided that the most important story in this race was Biden’s age."

Because Fox News, Newsmax, Infowars etc provide 24/7 hate mongering. Pick your target, immigrants, minorities, LGBTQ, woke etc. All to demonize Dems and their constituents.

the “some folks just need killing” thing out of north carolina reminds me of a third thing these annoying people are right about: as long as the republican bloodlust grows and their power is unbroken, every election probably will be the most important one of your life

The last week felt much like the other two events that most advanced American fascism—that being the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the Trump election. There's a pervasive and inescapable feeling of dread and despair around, because, as fascists see it, there is supposed to be.

Now consider how a very large backbone of rightwing media is to take a very remarkable event involving a marginalized person, and then amping the hell out of it. One trans woman a decade ago, attacks someone with an axe. A decade later, andy ngo breathlessly mentions the epidemic of trans axe murde

Mere exposure to misinformation, retroactively fucks with your memory. Even arguing about it, will do this. Even if it's a seemingly tiny detail. The more you go "no are you fucking with me? I saw it with my own eyes, you're just making shit up," the more that misinformation will fuck with it.

Probably a decent chance it ends up causing more harm through this than machine learning training / inference ever will...

A disrupted climate & diminished natural world are widening the dividing lines of ideological debate. Left unchecked, this will undermine democracy.

In this column I argue it is no coincidence that more extreme politics comes at a time of more extreme weather.

This is the explicit goal of an astonishing amount of paid (and paid for!) propaganda out there. If you're feeling voting doesn't matter, maybe consider why it is so many people are spending so much money, time, effort and ad space trying to convince you not to.

America is a country that occupies the land of my nation and which shouldn't have existed in the first place, but I'm still proud to be a member of a country founded on the ideal, no matter how hypocritical it's been in practice, that no man is above another. That is an ideal worth fighting for.

man, you work in a cubicle or a kitchen or a factory or a warehouse or wherever you work, the NYT oped board thinks you work in a corner office with an expansive view of NYC and go home to a 3BR apartment in a high rise, but you don’t have to believe them or treat them as if you do.

this whole thing is becoming a non-event, a giant simulacrum that everyone is rapid dumping their anxieties into, and what is genuinely hilarious is that this is sufficient to bootstrap a real crisis. I love modern news/social media and the machinations of its management wrt electoral democracy lol.

2/ ... confirming a new VP requires majority votes in the House and the Senate. If there is no VP, then Mike Johnson is next in line to the presidency. I think there's a very good argument that the House would not confirm anyone Harris nominated as VP.

Yeah if you are buying a first gen Leaf used, the price is probably the main motivator. But some people recognize, they dont need to drive 200 miles a day, you can recharge the Leaf from a regular 110 outlet...it is a very cost effective solution if you are ok with the limitations.

Actually I have been frequenting a forum for Leaf owners, surprising how many are buying old Leafs, knowing the issues but finding they can make them work for their needs. I'm saying most people aren't buying used EVs blindly, there is plenty of news about potential issues.

I think there really is an issue for the Leaf with fast chargers overheating the battery and an inadequate cooling system. So I hit the warranty almost a year before it expired, I was counting on it. But it sounds like these problems are being solved and battery tech is improving fast.

I feel like they gave me a new car, I can use it for more than the local trips I was using it for. Altho longer trips are a whole different thing I'm learning. Figure out where the good chargers are, but be careful not to overheat with a fast charger. Might be the core issue with the Leaf battery

Even my Leaf still could have handled my daily commute up til the warranty kicked in. Thanks to the problems with the earlier models (first production EV, give them credit), mine came with a warranty, which they recently honored with a new, larger capacity battery 😎.

I'm just driving a Leaf, and I mostly leave the "eco" setting on because otherwise it loves to go fast but your range will disappear if you abuse it, in addition to eating tires.

I definitely had to change my driving habits, and use appropriate settings, to save tire wear. When I first started driving it, it was too easy to spin the tires until you get used to it.
