I don't want some egghead bureaucrat telling me whether there's poison in the water I drink. Ideally I'd want that decided by a 29yo judge who went to a "biblical law school" and does not believe dinosaurs existed, and then to have that decision reaffirmed six years later by the Supreme Court.

Catastrophic. The fact that most watchers and of course most of us who work on regulation knew this was coming doesn’t soften the blow a bit. The modern administrative state is critical for health & social policy. Undermining it promises to worsen overall health and expand health inequalities.

The Biden FTC is on a roll. It banned noncompete clauses. It blocked the Kroger/Albertsons merger that would send grocery bills skyrocketing. Now it's taking action against Adobe for allegedly trapping users in pricey subscriptions. This is government working for the people.

Yes. However those companies currently operate at a loss. the final price you pay for your Taco Bell burrito delivery is less than the amount it cost doordash to get it to you. And that's AFTER they exploit their drivers with shit play. In your ideal world, food delivery should cost much more.

Yeah it's definitely not impossible. Windows has a ton of persistent state though and that is a legit issue for impactless updates. It's hard to do something with no downtime when you need to migrate tens of thousands of configuration settings from v1 to v2.

The dream is real in the cloud. I just shipped impactless updates for a portion of the Cobalt 100 Firmware since Azure is pretty much not allowed to have downtime ever. Maybe we can get there for client Windows someday. But probably only when there's $ to be made in it 😥
