One thing that drives me nuts in US politics is how often people just shrug off rhetoric they don't like as stuff that is just being said to get votes. Both sides get it: with Trump they just assure us he's just appealing to his crazy base and with Biden he's just saying stuff to get rightwing votes

In 2020 Republicans in socal blamed voter fraud on mail-in ballots, claiming it unfairly rigged the election to benefit Democrats. They immediately said "well if Democrats are doing it then we can too" and started intentionally committing fraud with their own mail drop boxes.

I am of the unpopular opinion that it might already be too late. Doesn't mean I'm not going to vote (Democratic), but there are too many factors. Judicial, state legislation (gerrymandering), the entire GOP wanting fascism. I think we already passed the tipping point.

The first Trump term was horrifically bad, but it wasn't the worst it could be because Republicans didn't control the other governing bodies of the federal government. It actually would have been worse if Democrats lacked control. And right now Democrats lack control of the other governing bodies.
