As a rule I think it's best to ignore basically any post on bluesky about the political parties "messaging" because by definition if you're posting here you are so far out of the norm that your evaluation of the "messaging," if you even see it, is gonna be off. Plus we have the memories of goldfish
100%. I do a lot of canvassing for local elections (I'm a rural county party chair), and 1) a lot of unaffiliated voters don't ever remember which party is which and 2) the number one issue people tend to care about is OTHER, and then fill in something weird here.
Even horse race journalists are pretty suspect IMO; in general it's extremely hard to know what messaging actually works or even has any effect at all, it's super easy to just read your own assumptions into everything
Personally, I think when large accounts complain about a lack of messaging, that should begin to indicate to them that, maybe, they should help out with that messaging.
Freindly reminder that Trump got elected not for:
knowledge
education
competency
intellect
patriotism
concern for equity
hard work
being blue collar
He got elected by:
messaging.
Righties have NOTHING but messaging.
We have to fight that fight, too.
it was embarrassing to see people doing this on twitter but here on Backwater Twitter For Recovering SA Goons we're gonna create the cringe singularity event that compresses and consumes us
People think politics is a grand strategy game where there's a singular party leader who can set the policies and political strategy" and that's only true for some kinds of political party.
Not even a left/right thing; Sin Fein can do it, the GOP can.
Fianna Fail and the Democratic Party can't.
This guy has been on that beat for…20 years maybe? And he ALWAYS ignores — always — any evidence that, in fact, the Dems have messaged exactly in the manner he suggested. For example, yesterday, Jamie Raskin said exactly this while adding it was outrageous the Speaker went to support him.
One month ago was
days after the Arizona Supreme Court reviving 1864 abortion ban,
OJ Simpson's death,
Iran's missile attack on Israel, and
three days before the first NYPD raid at Columbia U
I often think about Slate's article on how the WH needs to be louder on abortion the day that Harris was giving a speech about it. They mentioned it in the article but handwaved it away with a "But the press doesn't report on her."
In terms of threats, "Biden will never have the support of me, a Bluesky power user," is up there with, "I will never bring my own rack of ribs to your wedding and consume them during your vows."
Messaging is irrelevant if it is not being heard by persuadable voters. People cope either by tuning in obsessively to politics or completely tuning out (but still voting in record numbers come November...). Main goal is to have latter people hear anything positive about Biden.
I've had this idea in my head for a while that it should be illegal to be a political talking head in this country unless you spend 20 hrs a week driving ubers around major airports. even that isn't perfect because you're selecting out all the people too poor to fly but it's a start
