Good piece, @ianjames.bsky.social - and glad they're doing something.

And when I read this, every time I hit the phrase "food production", I added "for cows"

“People are talking about ‘Biden is too old’ — hell, I’m older than Biden,” Waters declared. “And I get up every morning. And I exercise. And I work late hours. I take care of Black people. Trump has told you who he is, he defined himself. He is a no good, deplorable, lying, despicable human being.”

“The poll finds Biden and former president Donald Trump in a dead heat in the contest for the popular vote, with both candidates receiving 46 percent support among registered voters. Those numbers are nearly identical to the results of an ABC-Ipsos poll in April.”

At this point, I don't even care who the Democratic nominee is. I'd like to get back to shining light on Trump's MAGA Right and their continual incitement of violence as they look to seize power again.

Odd. PharmaCos almost always *under-report* discontinuation rates. So if Pfizer says those rates are high, there might be so many dropping that the findings are invalid. OTOH, w/ GLP-1 drugs, dropout can be “it’s working TOO well”, so that’s why they might be working on [reduced] dosing

CEO of Chase bank says that if overdraft and late fees get capped, they'll have to start charging to have a checking account. Why? “It is not practical for many of the services to be free if we won’t be able to draw from those profit pools,” said Marianne Lake.

Reading a story about the election that casually referred to "Biden's slide in the polls" and it just remains remarkable to me that narrative reporters can just drop stuff like that into copy and never think twice about whether it has any basis in fact.

Theory I just came up with to explain the post-debate punditry & polls: Voters were already aware that Biden is old and don’t really care, while pundits assumed the opposite was true.

A pregnancy center can bill the state $14 for distributing a pack of diapers that only cost the center about 25 cents.

But before parents can get those diapers, they must take a class for which the center can bill the state $30 per hour of class a client attends.

Don't have a view on DPI, but even if/as inflation ticks back up a bit here in June/July, down in August, up again starting September (I know George sees it differently), that won't show up strongly trending in the data in time to affect election perceptions.

Well, well, well. WELL. That whole “protests made cops feel bad so they all quit” narrative? Looks like it was mostly myth. Excited to read this paper by Ben Grunwald, who compiled a huge dataset on post-2020 police employment. Agg decline was 1%… and bigger local declines not tied to protests.

I am a little skeptical about porting over other countries' elections as a direct proxy for our own *but* France and India are both good examples of recent elections where media hype around far right dominance was disconnected from reality and there's no reason it can't happen here too.
