A key point @ddayen.bsky.social and I discuss here is that in today's Dem Party, institutions that could channel the views of the grassroots about something like whether Biden should keep running are weak (like unions). So it's easier for Biden to say the move to oust him is driven by elites.

The polling data is not good for Biden, Dems already have to over perform by an average of 3.5 points to overcome the electoral hurdle if I remember my #s right. It wasn't particularly great before the debate, which was a real thing that occurred and not a mirage everyone will forget.

We will see how the final result lands, but if this holds it does seem likely that given a choice between the center and the far right, voters chose the far right. Given a choice between the left and the far right, they chose the left. How about that!

This is incredible news out of France - the left really saved the center's bacon. It has always seemed that the true cordon sanitaire for the center and right in the amnesiac 21st century was not against the far right but the left.

The exit poll data was really funny. People weren't voting for labor or it's policies or anything like that. People were voting against the Tories almost exclusively, it was a very lopsided response at the exit polling.
