When the american liberals use France's election as an illustration of the need to VOTE, they ignore that people were not only voting against the far right but *for* something. They voted for a campaign which promises to: increase minimum wage, lower retirement age, pay for all childcare, etc

I didn't think I'd live beyond 30 but I'm about to turn 34 & I think my biggest tip for others unprepared for life beyond 30- would be to try to build a community around yourself because even if you can't imagine life beyond 30, you'll have good people in your corner & it makes all the difference.

What this article leaves out is that if you hand your unlocked phone to a police officer, they can legally search it. Unless companies develop a method that allows you to show officers insurance cards and driver license without unlocking the rest of your phone, don't.

The worst thing about the way this has been covered is the pollyanna "they are what they say they are" stance. Strict constructionism was never either. Scalia didn't believe in democracy either. This was all right there, waiting for an opportunity. And the truth was kept out of public discourse.

That'd be the Bay Area. I was in a college town in New England. My dad had this whole collection of Black artists from his college DJ years that sounded nothing like what was on the radio, and I searched and searched for any radio station that sounded like it. Out here in Iowa? Good luck.

Yeah, it wasn't symmetrical. There was a total blackout was on the white side, and since they were trying to cross over, that hurt. And it was completely arbitrary: I've played them for multiple white people who grew up on 1970s rock radio, and they're all instant fans.

Narrowing the field to "people the Democrats would reasonably field," Harris is an obvious choice. For one thing, she is immediately and viscerally two things Trump despises: immigrants from anywhere other than Northern Europe, and African-Americans. That alone is powerful. And she's a lawyer.
