Man, if it turns out that the right winger telling NY Times readers that they should follow his example and not vote did in fact vote in the last two elections, the Times should add this to the piece. Better than a retraction, since it illustrates a willful hypocrisy.

Doesn’t NYT have fact checkers for their op-eds? Not great ones, obviously—see all the transphobia—but they should have caught something as blatant as this

I genuinely wonder how many people don’t realize that their voting history is public information? Obviously not *who* you voted for, but the fact that you voted is easily searchable!

To everyone justifiably horrified by NYT's July 4 op-ed "Why I don't vote. And maybe you shouldn't either", a few fun facts! Matthew Walther (the author) DID vote in both 2020 and 2022. Walther’s an extremist Catholic graduate of Hillsdale College Hilsdale’s was one of the factions behind Jan 6.

I don't know which is better, the idea that the author bamboozled the NYT to run this headline and they didn't bother checking the fundamental truth of it, or that the NYT picked it for the punchy vibe and they didn't check the fundamental truth of it. Either way, total faceplant.

Meet the opinion maker who wrote that piece, Matthew Walther, interviewed in 2023, who attended the notorious conservative Christian school, Hillsdale College in Michigan, that was so opposed to affirmative action that they went private so they wouldn’t have to comply with the law.

His self-justification must be the very Christian idea that lying or sinning in the service of a 'greater good' is justified. It's a reprehensible semantic shell game they play with themselves, to society's detriment.

Kathleen Kingsbury ("I think it’s important to challenge our readers who come from the left") should be called on to resign. Bad enough publishing fascists who are seeking to undermine our democracy. But not even fact-checking this clown's claim that he doesn't vote? GTFOOH.

And this is such a basic, obvious thing: right wingers always vote and they always tell people not to vote. This isn't some genius plot he cooked up in his brilliant mind. Right wing voters always turn out for the current tyrant, and they always shout the loudest that every politician is the same.

Luckily, the number of people who won’t vote because a @nytimes.com columnist tells them not to is pretty much zero.
