Right, that’s why I said where it’s used well outside of animal training. There were definitely horrific lessons that most people learned by over-applying these techniques to humans, but some people still have managed not to learn them and use it as a pseudoscientific gloss over tough love abuse

And they seem to imply this this has to do with radical behaviorism, which was literally a movement based on the idea we couldn’t see the internal state of an animal or person, so we should focus on understanding behavior instead of whatever Freud & friends were doing.

Behaviorism is a dead part of psychology for good reason, and where it is used well (outside of training animals for experiments which is like 90% of its usefulness) aversive stimuli aren’t used because ethics, they don’t work well, and can have horrific outcomes.

My wife and I ran into her and her husband when our daughter was a newborn, and she was really touched when my wife told her how she was glad to have a role model for our daughter representing us. My wife came away from the interaction an even bigger fan.
