what are we doing here? he accidentally said million instead of billion and then immediately knew it and corrected himself. he didn’t “flub a line” and then “make an effort to correct himself,” he did the speaking equivalent of a typo that you know you’ve made and instantly correct

i think akhil amar reed captures something very important, which is that the roberts court rewrote article ii, which explicitly states that a president can be held criminally liable after impeachment (and which has long been understood to mean that he can be held liable after leaving office)

This is also why so many actual veterans who are women and non-white report getting regularly questioned about if they “really served” when they try to use the benefits they’re entitled to. GOP voter’s performative worship of veterans is very often predicated on those vets being the “right kind.”
