Learning about Woody Guthrie as a kid: He wrote this story about how he loved America, it has one verse
Every other Woody Guthrie song: Gonna Stab Me A Fascist (Fascist-Stabbing Song)
One of the top ... well, 20 (at least) albums of last year was the Dropkick Murphy's release of Woody Guthrie tunes. Punk is punk, no matter how heavy.
but on the other side
[the sign] didn't say nothin'
that side was made for you & me
in the shadow of the steeple
By the relief line I saw my people
As they stood there whistlin' they stood there hungry
my elementary school teacher taught the other verses, which align w/Woody Guthrie's body of work
This is a really good joke but I have to stipulate that there are at least TWO "I love America" songs. If just this verse doesn't say that then I don't know what does:
"I'd like to dream My troubles all away On a bed of California stars"
