Let's hope the results of the #UKElections2024 will mean an end to the cruel and costly attempts to send asylum seekers to Rwanda. A vicious, nonsensical policy to punish the powerless, a sick effort to feed xenophobia for votes - which didn't work.

Liz Truss getting pushed out is the cherry on the cake. Didn't even stay to acknowledge, congratulate and thank people, just slunk off. She represented everything that was selfish and stupid about the Tories. Yeah, fuck off.

1/ I'm agnostic as to whether Biden should withdraw from the race. It's a genuinely tough question IMO. But I have clarity on one thing: He should absolutely not step down as president. If Harris becomes President, the Vice Presidency is empty. Under the 25th Amendment ...

One thing that's been very clear this past week is that most of those writing & pontificating about Biden's future as the party's nominee have a little to no experience in state and local Democratic Party activities. A brief 🧵:

A viral story that alleges Ukraine's Olena Zelenska recently bought a rare Bugatti car in Paris is the work of an AI-powered disinformation operation, run by an ex-Florida cop now based in Moscow, that pumps out a network of fake news websites aimed at Americans.

FT and NYT are up with stories about how those close to Biden have recognized a noticeable cognitive decline in the past weeks. Notably, there are security and intel sources who question his capacity to carry out his duties as President. This is not a joke.

Okay, so US Supreme Court made exactly the evasive opinion that was predicted with exactly the vote that was predicted. Their main intervention was to delay issuing the predicted decision until the date that was predicted, which is today.

The central thesis of the case here is just ... wrong. That's not the crux of the dispute. USG always always always maintained official acts are immune and non-official acts are not. That's the easy bit. The hard bit is deciding if an act is official, and SCOTUS just punts on that actual core

Opinion basically comes down to "official actions are immune, unofficial aren't" and the court says that since lower courts have not made a determination on that question, they need to go do that. Beyond me to determine how feasible that is, but absolutely delays the trial.

I suggest you take a good look at the past VPs in this country bc that's perception not reality. Right now she polls lower than Biden so I don't care if Quayle sat around working on his spelling. Harris needs to look capable at this moment.

In fact the party needs to get its media campaign in gear & start putting out some viral spots & get that old man in some interviews starting w/ the NYT. He ought to be on every media out there plus the socials.

No one listened to the media when they kept pointing out Biden was declining so why listen to calls of fascism? He is a convicted felon & proven rapist. No one hid this or played it down. Some ppl don't care, others can't be bothered. Others are fully into it.Biden needs to address this.

I'm seeing a lot of "Why didn't the NYT tell Trump to leave the race?!" Come on now. The editorial said explicitly that if Biden stays in, the paper will unhesitatingly endorse him over Trump. The piece wasn't about who's worse. And what it WAS about is real, and can't be wished or shouted away.

Yes because writing about Trump's court cases, all of his racism, multiple wives, lack of money didn't keep an entire eco system of media going in NYC throughout the 80s & 90s & now he is a global phenomenon, a convicted felon; w/additional court cases & loads more to publish on him.

it feels like the whiteness of big political media spaces right now is having a big effect on how people are thinking about the debate. eg I have seen relatively little discussion of trump's "black jobs" comment, which immediately exploded on black twitter

I would disagree. I mean the NYT openly says he's a liar & a convicted felon. I think ppl misread dispassion for being biased. & I want my news to challenge the stories, the narratives being laid out there. I tell journalists I work w/to challenge & question no matter the "side" you're on.

I think this happened in the 19th century but not sure. Anyway 1. choose someone else 2. choose someone else 3. VP 4. VP I would assume there would be court cases tho challenging the VP. So this would be drawn out. But basically, the slot goes down the constitutional line I would think

And she would finish the term. So the elex would run as the normal sked. The thing is if he resigned now and Harris took the campaign over there is real worry she wouldn't win.

I think a lot of ppl ought 1. Not confuse editorial w/reportage 2. understand that telling you things that you *don't* want to hear is part of the job of news media. Things like Biden is declining faster than we are being lead to believe.

The NYT & Post both have leader writers that are exceptionally diverse. & don't make the mistake that just being black & a woman makes you correct. this is where identity politics get you fucked up. The reality is most in the media are not voting Trump.
