The new UK government has the lowest proportion of privately educated cabinet members since 1945, and that's just fine.

We’re making a lot of plastic. In the nearly 70 years between 1950 and 2019, we produced a total of ~9.5 billion tonnes of plastic. But that's equivalent in weight to the amount of CO₂ we emitted to the atmosphere during the first three months of 2024.

That's certainly something to think about. I would say that in the case of low income households who can't afford to upgrade, subsidies should be provided to support upgrading, instead of to support continued emissions from gas.

"A new regulatory approach is urgently needed to ensure costs for gas grid do not spiral out of control." Surely the best (and fairest) outcome would be if it did "spiral out of control", meaning costs would be paid by the remaining users, giving them an incentive to migrate to cleaner fuels.

I keep seeing journalists and others take things that #OpenAI employees say at face value. Just given the data we have it's safe to assume that everyone working there in any kind of managerial role is a compulsive liar. They are even less credible than the outputs their products generate.

Despite the positive headline, this is a very depressing article. Global fossil fuel usage is growing as fast as ever, with no sign of slowing down, and the same applies to global CO2 emissions. Almost all of that growth is coming from China.
