I vividly remember the "am I crazy?" feeling I had being told by a medical expert that I sincerely trust with my life that COVID was not airborne. I do not blame her personally in any way. She's a transplant expert and was working with the information she was given by experts in another field.

I'm incredibly alert for authoritarian stuff. But this seemed like "horizontal" professional trust among specialized experts who don't have the bandwidth to verify everything. Many infectious disease experts (and public health pundits) have violated that trust.

When Johns Hopkins Hospital stopped masking, my otherwise really smart & experienced transplant nurse told me that COVID can't be airborne or they'd be required to keep wearing masks. The American healthcare system has been filled with "wash your hands to prevent a respiratory virus" misinformation.

A very recent example: the Congressional Medal of Honor was awarded posthumously in 2021 to Sergeant First Class Christopher Celiz of the US Army for his actions in 2018.

While TTPRPGs are a good source, I'd recommend the board game Cosmic Encounter as an even better source for political game system rules. Among other things, it included a "Filch" card that let you steal cards from the deck when other players are distracted. (Later versions may have nerfed it.)
