I am going to say it again - blaming all of this on money is going to keep progressives and leftists from learning lessons from all of Bowman’s unforced errors. Once you are elected you have to recognize that you’re a Democratic insider, and that your constituents are Democrats. AOC is good at this!

The "unforced errors" were not nearly as big an issue as the entire Pro-Israel-No-Matter-What apparatus attacking him. That it's a solidly conservative organization walking around in liberal clothing is also pretty concerning.

People blaming it on AIPAC aren’t grappling with why the messaging — which was mostly not about Israel — found such strong traction

He’s on track to lose by roughly where polling was back in April, before the ad buys. So what did they buy?

Let’s not give AIPAC undue credit. That’s part of their strategy!

It’s the same as “we don’t have gun control because the NRA bribes politicians” It’s a very shallow analysis.

Folks would do also to give the voters in the district some amount of agency. Bowman did himself no favors and overall, this is a normie Dem district. Multiple things are true at the same time. But the idea that this is as simple as AIPAC activating a horde of dupes is wrong.

he was never a great candidate & he seemed to be focused on standing out & making a name for himself (& being weird) instead of trying to win over the voters in his district...the ridiculous money involved in these races needs to stop too...but leftist democrats need better candidates

if you want to continue representing democrats, perhaps it is important to support the leader of the party in key moments and key votes. weird that aoc learned this and sailed to re-election

I firmly believe Bowman will be a one-off: a singular weirdo and a weak candidate in a tough primary. I look forward to AIPAC blasting, like, Greg Casar in the general and losing a ton of cash.

This is spot on. If it was solely about money then AIPAC would have thrown all that at AOC. They’d have loved to beat her. They didn’t even try because she is good at politics and shows progressives and leftists how to do win and be effective.

Take a look at Oregon US district 3 Open seat, Aipac spent huge against Susheela Jayapal. It was absolutely about the money. The # of commercials I got for Dexter vs Jayapal was like 5:1 Latimer is abhorrent, It is about the money.

$15 million in a primary was the highest spend ever and it all came from AIPAC. Whatever he did wrong, it was the vicious ads and lines about Bowman representing Dearborn, not New York (which, having been born in Dearborn, I deeply resent the racist implication of) that buried him.

My problems with this framing are: 1) is Bowman truly "worse" than your average House member re: wierd, off-putting ideas and gaffes? In the worst ½? Probably not. 2) you can't be fighting Center-right NY Dems, and the Dem party, AND AIPAC dumping tons of $ into your race, nobody is *that* good

(Already pinching pennies for the AOC presidential fund ✌️) What if it shouldn’t be on the left to run perfect candidates, but rather on the center not to be completely susceptible to propaganda? Also on the center to be more honest w their politics?
