It truly is very funny to see her pick a very public, very aggressive fight with one of the most widely beloved celebrities in the entire UK who also has a deeply personal, compelling stake in trans rights via his child who he supports wholeheartedly.

And while there are obviously exceptions on either side, this is why I hate every iteration of "challenging literature/film/theory is classist" take --- lots of erudite people are that way bc it was their way out, and plenty of rich kids don't give a shit bc they don't have to

I think people (myself included) can feel depressed when you think "Nobody's doing anything!!!" Well, when you are in a well-run organization, most people are doing things

Let me say in response to everyon's despair--as a socialist prone to skepticism and critique, any time I ever, ever leave an organizing meeting I'm in a great mood! And not in an "opiate of the left" way but because you do see wins and are reminded how big and diverse your movement is

Remember, this is America, the world's greatest democracy. If you're mad at John Roberts, don't protest at his house, focus on defeating him the next time he's up for reelection.

Compare the splashy $100 million spend to the $20 million abortion funds spent from July 2021 to June 2022 to make sure real people get the abortions they seek, and they usually don't cover the full cost that a caller faces nor help every caller in need.

People said Greenpeace was nuts in 2009 to predict 921GW of installed solar by 2030. Last year there was 1,419GW. Cost dropped 95% from 2008-20 and it’s dropping faster. There will be vast amounts of cheap clean energy in the future; we just need to use it.

“Cultural vandalism” sounds histrionic but it’s hard to think of what else to call this. Just the gratuitous annihilation of human creativity.

I grew up in an evangelical church and I have said for years (and always felt people don't believe me!): they don't have or teach any sort of consistent theology! It's all dogmatic rules and social norms and some general ideas about heaven, hell and rapture.

visiting my dad and we watched an unplanned but serendipitous triple feature of Double Indemnity, The Sweet Smell of Success, and Glengarry Glen Ross. Three truly great movies about the ways financial desperation turns people into rotten, pathetic cretins

there's this bizarre thing that's happened on social media in the last few years where anyone with a low wage job = secretly wealthy, but "real" working class people have 6 figure jobs somehow? most poor people I know are just fucking poor their whole lives!
