In my book, this is worse than secretly taking lavish gifts: Clarence Thomas cut off the boy he was "raising as a son" after the kid failed a drug test in high school.
He's in jail now, but doesn't think the Thomases even know.
"I just wish they’d at least communicate with me," he says.
Wasn't just an ordinary high school; they sent him to military school and some weird-sounding behavioral school. Chicken or egg: did the schools mess him up or did they send him there because he was messed up?
Agreed. Just when I thought he couldn't be any more disgraceful. My mother the Catholic theologian would have found him wanting as a supposedly devout Catholic.
I went to a troubled teens boarding school and it is disturbing how common this is among wealthy people with kids in their care who are "like their children". They basically throw them away.
As much as I think Thomas needs to be removed from the bench, I also know what it’s like to be a step parent to someone who spins stories and leaves out the truth.
If you read his opinion as the only dissent in the case saying strip searching an elementary school kid for advil is unreasonable, this starts to makes sense. He puts his policies into practice!
Many American families have someone who got into trouble with drugs. It's hard for everyone. I don't know all the details of why Thomas chose to wash his hands of this boy, but I can't help but contrast it to how Joe and Jill Biden never stopped loving Hunter.
Folks, I don’t wanna say anything controversial here, but I’m staaaarting to get the feeling that Clarence Thomas is kind of a bad guy. Like, just a really shitty person. Maybe not someone who should play a part in deciding what the law of the land is.
And Mark Martin is his great-nephew, right, or did I misread something in the article? I mean, he's a blood relative, not just some orphan the Thomases decided to abandon when he started doing typical teenage sh#t.
The contrast in humanity and care between the Biden and the Thomas couldn't be more stark.
Republicans and not representing the family values.
They are dissolving it.
Alito seems like he cooked his own brain watching Fox News, but Thomas seems like he’s always been a deeply unpleasant person from the jump.
Never heard anything redeeming about him, tbh. Even personally he seems cruel and self absorbed.
When things got rough instead of nipping it in the bud and helping him they abandoned him. He wasn't perfect enough for them. Ginni had bigger fish to fry, like democracy.
I remember vividly Anita Hill’s testimony about Clarence Thomas’ toxic behavior towards her. It was disturbing but he continues to prove she was telling the truth about his immoral character and lack of integrity.
Old Bible:
Peter to OG Jesus: How many times do I need to forgive someone?
OG Jesus: You must forgive people 7 times 70 times.
MAGA Bible:
Peter to Modern Jesus: “Same question.”
Modern Jesus: Forgive?! No need…it’s one and done with me.
That’s contemporary MAGA fevered Christianity for you.
Clarence is profoundly disabled, as is Alito, by greed and other negatives. These guys don’t have the capacity for empathy. I hope neither of them have progeny.
I know a person that was adopted and then dumped. You don't get over something like that and what it does to how you view yourself
Clarence Thomas can't even be considered Human
I don't have kids, but I can't fathom abandoning one like that.
Like, if your kid turns out to be a serial killer or something absolutely irredeemable, sure. But even then, I'd expect you'd grieve and want to believe there's good in them somewhere.
Over a high school drug test, though? Ugh.
