This is what's angering me the most about it. A) This is a self-inflicted wound that B) will be made much worse when the inevitable downturn or some other disaster strikes. At a time when we could be shoring up the system for generations, one person has decided to make that impossible.

My new goal is to convince BRTB that consensus does not equal unanimity. They should be developing plans that follow well documented best practices and lean forward on vulnerable road user safety, if MDOT or a member jurisdiction wants to vote against it, let them do so on the public record.

I attended the open house style meeting at the Enoch Pratt Free Library Central Branch (by the way, such a treasure) and had some good conversation, including with Todd Long, Director of Transportation at BMC. I still think this study will largely tell us what we already knew, but still engaging.

What’s even the point of developing these plans and voting on them as an MPO if there’s no accountability or enforcement to work on them? Perhaps they can explain some more at the public meeting as to how this process will result in bike infrastructure getting built.

I believe that the *individuals* that work at BRTB are perfectly interested in bike planning. Just that they will also shrug and invest hundreds of millions in highways instead with a shrug and say “well, that’s what member jurisdictions asked for”, as if their plans are meaningless.

I also have a lot of suspicion that BRTB and BMC will actually deliver anything here except press releases and political cover for local jurisdictions that don’t want to invest funds (especially Baltimore County), but I’m going to a public meeting tomorrow.

Saw one in Hunt Valley Saturday morning then took a business trip to CA and saw like a half dozen. The colored ones look better than the unfinished ones. None look like particularly practical cars. One let me over when I was in a turn-only lane and I did a double take, they were driving politely!

Had never heard of Cresap’s War, but I get up to northern Baltimore/Harford Counties cycling and it’s really wild to think of that as a disputed borderland. Funny to hear names for what are, to this day, sparsely populated rural areas being the subject of an armed conflict.

Many of these alignments are still being studied for transit development. It’s almost like the geography doesn’t really change that much and we *don’t actually require* years more study to decide an East-west rail line would be a good idea.

This reminds me of Larry Hogan canceling the Red Line in Baltimore right after getting elected governor. Like 10 years later we’re back to trying to build the Red Line that would be operational by now. We can NOT beat this much power in a single politician to derail years of public investment.

I called my congressman and expressed that I want a change in House leadership. I also called Jeffries office and let them know how stupid his actions were. Not much help, I’m sure, but if every Democrat in Congress gets some calls saying “Not Hakeem Jeffries” for leadership, maybe it matters.

Speaking as someone who rides a road bike a lot for recreation/exercise, any cyclist that opposes inclusive infrastructure should be ostracized by all who ride. How can you ride and oppose bike lanes? If you’re going that fast just get in the car lane!

I end up emphatically waving back to say “Look, I already came to a full stop, the last thing I want to now do is start immediately back up and feel indebted to you because I’m slowing you down. Instead, call your state legislator and ask them to vote for the Idaho Stop if you feel I should go!”
